Following August’s successful Incentivized Technical Test, the developers of Calamity are now planning to bring their MMORPG back up online soon once again, this time with the launch of the Guild System Playtest, giving players another opportunity try out new features and play to airdrop the upcoming $WYRM token.

Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming test session and how you can participate for a potential token airdrop allocation alongside $RON rewards.

What Is Calamity?

Calamity is a free to play action RPG with real-time PvE and PvP gameplay set in a pixelated top-down fantasy world powered by a player-driven economy. Fight your way through varied enemies and bosses in increasingly challenging PvE dungeons across multiple difficulty levels in real-time combat to level up your class and discover better upgradable gear to help you create a strong character build suited to your playstyle.

This game has been undergoing a number of playtests throughout this year and offering varying amounts of rewards for participating. The last one took place in August this year and featured almost 6000 unique accounts competing for USDC, Factory NFTs, and an airdrop of the $WYRM token over the course of 3 days. That playtest featured a USDC prize pool, which grew into x16 times its initial reward amount thanks to player purchases further funding it.

Now, over a month later, it’s time yet again to jump into a new playtest to play to earn some more crypto while enjoying a big new feature that should make it easier to earn rewards for free. Let’s take a look!

What’s New in Calamity’s Guild System Playtest?

The Guild System Playtest gives the blockchain gaming community a limited time try out the new Guild system in Calamity, one which consists of Scholarships and Sponsors, giving anyone an easier way to play to earn for free and thus making for a more accessible blockchain gaming experience.

Anyone will be able to create a Guild for free, with each clan able to consist of a maximum of 75 members. Each Guild is comprised of 2 big features: the Scholarship System and the Guild Leaderboard.

In this game, each Guild has its own Treasury that contains the game’s currency called Gold. Members can deposit gold into their Guild’s Treasury, while the Guild Leader or Officers can then use the gold from the treasury to buy Season Passes and Time for scholars. By depositing gold into the treasury, you essentially become a Sponsor. The guild can then use those funds to offer Scholarships by spending gold on Season Passes and Time, opening up the opportunity for scholars to receive 20/80% profit-sharing terms for free.

As a scholar, a portion of the gold you earn from the Wyrm Tribute, a system awarding gold for raiding dungeons, is split back to Treasury Sponsors depending on their deposit share. The more Gold you choose to place into the Treasury as a Sponsor, the more Gold you receive from scholars. With this system, anyone looking to offer Scholarships does not need to manage anything, as the Guild Leaders/Officers are the ones who choose how they want to spend the deposited Gold, while Sponsors simply passively earn daily rewards automatically.

The Guild Leaderboard basically tracks player performance of the clan’s members, so the better members and scholars are doing in their dungeon raids, the higher the guild’s leaderboard score will be, with the highest-ranking guilds set to win $WYRM tokens.

For this playtest, there are a total of 3 million $WYRM tokens up for grabs across the following 4 leaderboards:

  • Valor (Solo) - 1,000,000 $WYRM for the top 185 players
  • Guilds - 1,225,000 $WYRM   for the top 5 guilds
  • Fame (Referrals) - 450,000 $WYRM for the top 60 referrers
  • Sponsors (Scholarships) - 325,000 $WYRM   for the top 40 sponsors

A more detailed reward structure can be found in this Google Sheet.

Next to these leaderboards, there is also the Wyrm Tribute prize pool, which starts at 2000 $RON / 1 million Gold. This starting pool is seeded by the team, and is increased by player purchases. Previously, the developers used USDC for this pool, but have decided to switch to RON to “make access easier for players and Ronin community.”

This playtest will also give players the option to buy Factory NFTs in the game itself using Gold. The option will be available in the Premium Features section in-game, and players will be able to unlock the right to buy 1 NFT, with holders gaining the ability to earn $WYRM tokens and exclusive in-game benefits, according to a separate X post.

According to the announcement, all these prize pools are said bring players ~$25k worth of rewards to play to earn. Here is how you can get ready to play to earn.

How to Play to Earn in Calamity’s Guild System Playtest

From September 30, 10 AM UTC, to October 3, 1 PM UTC, anyone will be able to play to airdrop $WYRM and play to earn $RON in Calamity for free during the Guild System Playtest by becoming a scholar or by buying a $2 Season Pass.

To become a scholar, you will need to join a Guild willing to offer you a Season Pass and Time to start sharing profits from your dungeon raiding gameplay.

In this game, players are awarded in-game Gold currency using the Wyrm Tribute system, through which players can earn crypto rewards. For this playtest, your share of Gold will be converted to $RON tokens, with 1 $RON said to be worth 500 Gold. This means that you need to earn at least 500 Gold during this playtest to receive a $RON airdrop.

To earn a share of the Wyrm Tribute prize pool, which starts at 1 million Gold or 2000 $RON, you will need to buy the Season Pass or have a Guild sponsor one for you. The Season Pass costs 2000 Gold, and can now be bought in-game for this test session. Previously, it was only possible to buy through the official dApp for $2, but will now also be possible to buy with Gold directly in-game. All Season Pass purchases fund the Wyrm Tribute, so the more players participate, the bigger this playtest’s $RON reward pool could be.

Alongside this prize pool, you can also compete to earn an airdrop allocation of the upcoming $WYRM token. You can do so by becoming one of the top 40 sponsors, one of the top 60 referrers, one of the top 185 Valor Solo players, or as part of the top 5 guilds. To climb the Valor Solo leaderboard, you simply have to raid dungeons, with the more difficult dungeons awarding a higher quantity of Valor points.

If you missed out on last month’s playtest and want to play to earn $RON plus play to airdrop $WYRM, then you may want to look forward to this scholarship-fueled and guild-focused Guild System Playtest. You can start playing Calamity for free by downloading the open beta version on Windows or Mac once the playtest goes live. Standalone builds can be downloaded in the game’s official Discord server over at the #download-game channel, and you can also wishlist the game on Steam and the Epic Games Store, through which the game might also go live for this playtest.
