Brawlers Expands to Mobile With iOS Beta Launch

You can now play to earn $BRWL tokens in NFT-based PvP game Brawlers on mobile thanks to the new beta launch on iOS, currently available through TestFlight. An App Store version is in the works, after which the developers will look to further expand their competitive web3 gaming experience to Android devices.
Brawlers Expands to Mobile With iOS Beta Launch

Card-based NFT wrestling game Brawlers has debuted on mobile devices this October, allowing iOS users to download a beta version of the WAX-powered PvP game.

How to Play Brawlers on iOS

To jump in this early mobile release on an iPhone or iPad, you’ll have to download the web3 game using the TestFlight app. After downloading the TestFlight app from the App Store, you can use the official link from the Twitter announcement post to get the game downloaded and ready to go. You might get a code challenge screen if you use the link without the app, so you’ll have to open the link again after downloading the TestFlight app in order to successfully continue.

Once you’re done downloading, you can jump in and start participating by accessing your MyCloudWallet account. You should use the old-fashioned email and password login method to get access to your wallet, otherwise you will not be able to participate in this beta due to a bug with the current social login system. If you’re a returning player who has previously used a social sign-in option to play the game on web browsers, then you might not be able to play. However, you can try using a workaround suggested by the developers, which involves changing your social login to the email method by clicking on “Forgot Password” on the MyCloudWallet login page. Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon! If you spot any other bugs, then you should certainly let the team know by heading to the Apps list on the TestFlight app and tapping on the game to get the option for sending beta feedback.

With this release, this means that you can now play the blockchain game on the Epic Games Store (Windows and Mac), and iOS, with NFT-related functionalities opening up the web browser version so you can shop for assets. It will launch on Android devices in the future as well, but developer Tyranno Studios has not provided any official release date at the time of writing. According to a Discord message from their Head of Studio, the Android build is currently in development and needs a “little more engineering” before it can launch properly on the Play Store. The focus for now is more on properly bringing this iOS version to the App Store first, after which it likely won’t take long for an Android launch to follow.

What Is Brawlers?

Previously known as Blockchain Brawlers, this rebranded title is a tactical turn-based card wrestling game lets players enjoy a competitive NFT gaming experience by using on-chain assets to play to earn $BRWL tokens. You can’t earn the core cryptocurrency of Brawlers as a free to play player, and players need to participate in BRWL rooms to earn the token, requiring you to own both NFTs and $BRWL, as the earnable token is used as an entry fee.

The game revolves around PvP wrestling matches that consist of multiple rounds in which you pick 2 cards each round from a shared 32-card deck: the Set Up card and the Slam card. The Set Up card is one the opponent can see from the start, while the Slam card is shown later. There is a Damage Multiplier that you can adjust to 1, 2, or 3. Which number you choose depends on whether you think you have the upper hand in winning the round. If you don’t think you can win, then you might want to use the Fold option instead. You can have up to 6 cards in your hand, but you must play 2 each round.

By winning rounds, you get to lower your opponent’s health, so once you win enough rounds to lower their health to zero, you win the match. A round can be won in 3 different ways: by getting a higher 2-card score, by having your opponent Fold, but also by having ‘flexing’ done by either you and/or your enemy. Flexing is a risky tactic where you play your highest card as the Set Up card, and you should only do this if you think your opponent will Fold. If they don’t Fold, you could suffer a lot of damage depending on the cards they have. Speaking of Folding, you’ll want to Fold often in order to not only remove low cards, but also to avoid getting bonus damage inflicted on you, because if that happens, you risk getting your Power Meter back to 1. Losing a round resets the Power Meter, while winning rounds increases it. The Power Meter determines the amount of damage you do to your opponent.

If both you and your opponent happen to use the same Damage Multiplier, you’ll enter a Showdown where your Slam Cards will be revealed. If your Set Up Card and Slam Card in total are better than the opponent’s, you win the round. Well, maybe. This depends on Flexing. If both sides are Flexing, then it’s a regular Showdown. If only you are Flexing, then you lose, regardless of your card total. If you Flex but your opponent Folds, then you can deal lots of damage, as your Power Meter Score is doubled.

For more details on this unique PvP system, check out the developer’s official instruction manual.

To get started with playing Brawlers though, you need 11 Cards. These include Number Cards 1-8, 1 Attack, 1 Taunt, and 1 Finisher Card. Topping this all off is 1 Brawler NFT to let you face off in the ring. All of these assets can be found in the studio’s own Starter Packs, but also on WAX marketplaces such as the Atomic Hub and vIRL Market.
