As the release of Axie Infinity Origin draws closer, Axie takes another step forward with a reset of their in-game market. The imminent release of their game reboot requires heavy use of semi-disposable NFTs. And so, this update from Axie includes marketplace support for ERC-1155 tokens, as well as some optimization and stability improvements.
Axie Infinity Origin will be a big change for the Axie ecosystem. And with it comes the need for improvements to their marketplace. Most notably, this update allows the market to work with ERC-1155 tokens. The main differences between ERC-1155 and the more well known ERC-721 standard, is that ERC 1155 supports bulk transactions and transfers, making swaps of multiple tokens easier and cheaper. This is very similar to the SFTs from Genopets that were recently added to the Magic Eden marketplace. The purpose is to have NFTs that exist in large quantities, and see lots of trading activity, without putting undue stress on the system, the user, or the blockchain.
In the case of Axie Origin, this ERC standard is used for the new Runes and Charms. Runes and Charms are part of the upcoming Axie relaunch. Runes provide bonuses to Axies. Each Axie can equip only one Rune. Charms affect body parts, and the associated ability. Players can attach one Charm to each body part of the Axies they own.
The game will feature Seasonal Runes that are only available for limited times, creating a market for those that go out of print. Players can also break down Charms and Runes for Moonshards, used in crafting. So there are plenty of opportunities for a healthy market to develop around these items.
It's also likely that the Axie team will add other items as ERC-115 tokens in future releases.
As a result of this update, all pre-existing Axie listings were removed. If you had an Axie listed before and still want to sell, you will need to re-list it. At the moment, listings default to expire after six months, but the Axie team promises more listing options in the future.
Axie Infinity is a creature battler and breeding game. Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to the Ronin sidechain in 2021, and launched a staking system for their AXS governance token.
In the game players use a team of three Axie NFTs to battle opponents in Adventure mode (PvE) and the Arena (PvP). Rewards from the Arena include Smooth Love Potions (SLP) and AXS, the governance token for Axie Infinity.
Players use SLP to breed new Axies. Parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times. Players use Runes and Charms they find in PvE mode to provide boosts to their Axies. If you want to get started with the game, check out our Axie Ifinity guide and review.
Once the king of the play-to-earn scene, Axie Infinity has seen a hard fall. But soon, Axie Infinity will morph into Axie Origin, which includes revamped combat, a new Axie progression system, crafting, and more!
