Blockchain gaming investor Animoca Brands and its subsidiaries continue to further expand their reach across various regions with various partnerships and Web3 investments. Their strategic subsidiary, Animoca Brands Japan, who previously formed a partnership with Quidd last month, has now announced that they’ve teamed up with creative NFT production company Apas Port so that they can together partner with digital toy platform Cryptoys in order to create a new toy experience geared towards Japanese collectors.
According to the official press release, this new partnership is set to deliver a new toy experience to Japanese collectors, with both partners, Animoca Brands Japan and Apas Port, set to create various activities that will promote this “new form of experience,” with the CEO of the Animoca subsidiary, Daisuke Iwase, saying the following:
“We are delighted that, together with our partners, Animoca Brands has the opportunity to introduce the attractiveness of Web3 through digital toys featuring characters widely loved in Japan. As a Web3 leading company leveraging cutting-edge concepts and technology, we aspire to not only cater to pioneering users but also to spread joy and excitement to those who have yet to experience this world.”
The name Cryptoys, next to representing the name of the platform, also refers to digital toys that aim to redefine how we think about the word “play” by combining “toys and entertainment to create an expansive entertainment universe for collectors.” It’s made by OnChain Studios and features a unique cast of characters known as Zoo-F-O Escape™, but there are also popular characters from Star Wars™, Masters of the Universe™, as well as Mickey and Friends™.
The CEO of OnChain Studios, Will Weinraub, commented the following in the announcement:
“We've seen tremendous interest in Cryptoys from Japan and throughout the region overall. Through this partnership, we're excited to expand the Cryptoys brand into Japan and connect with collectors directly. We have many new activations launching in the coming months, and we can't wait to introduce those to Japanese collectors.”
Jumping into the world of Cryptoys starts off with opening a blind-pack cube on the platform, after which you open a blister pack, marking the start of your new digital collection with unboxing presented using a 3D animated experience that is “tailored to brands and character lines that are both familiar and new.” Collectors have the option to unwrap their toys in order to bring them into life, brimming with personality and animated moves.
Apas Port CEO Daisuke Sasaki added:
“I am very excited to support the expansion of Cryptoys in Asia in collaboration with Animoca Brands Japan, who with its parent company Animoca Brands provides strong support for the advancement of Web3. We believe we can create moments that resonate with the world by leveraging Web3 technology and a co-created community. Together we will promote the appeal of Cryptoys' digital toys as part of our vision for the future of play in the Asian market.”
Last year, Cryptoys managed to secure $23 million in a Series A funding round led by a16z.
