Anichess has officially confirmed that the long-awaited token generation event (TGE) for its ecosystem token, now known as $CHECK, is happening in Q4 2025. The announcement was made in a short post on X, where the team stated: "$CHECK Mate. Launching Q4." This token was previously known as $C and has been central to the game's economy since its early development.

The Q4 launch comes after 3 years of testing, scaling, and community-building. With over 5 million minutes played in Season 4 alone, Anichess has shown signs of strong player interest even before its token officially goes live.

Over Half of $CHECK Supply Goes to the Community

According to the latest tokenomics shared by the team, more than 55% of the total $CHECK supply has been allocated to the community. The largest chunk, 36.4%, is set aside for player rewards, while 19% will be used for the Ecosystem and Treasury. The team said that the token will follow a performance-based model. Rather than releasing large amounts all at once, tokens will be earned gradually over time, based on gameplay and contribution.

On top of that, 10% of the token supply has been reserved specifically for holders of Ethernals, the game's first NFT collection. The amount each holder receives will depend on the rarity level of their Ethernal.

VibeCheck to Expand Utility for $CHECK Holders

Announced in late July, VibeCheck is a community-driven system designed to power new games, give creators tools to build, and reward players with real ownership. Powered by $CHECK, it aims to flip the usual top-down game publishing model on its head by letting anyone pitch, vote on, and shape new games using a recurring event called a "Vibe Sprint."

Each Vibe Sprint invites users to submit their own strategy game ideas. The community then stakes $CHECK tokens to vote for their favorites. Winning entries are added to the VibeCheck platform, where they receive resources, exposure, and direct support.

$CHECK is woven into every part of the system. Players use it to pay entry fees, unlock special content, and earn rewards. Builders and voters also get paid in $CHECK for their role in creating and curating games. This model promotes active participation and makes the token useful across multiple games, not just Anichess.

The team says the goal is to build an ecosystem where both creators and players are rewarded, and where every new game helps grow the overall value of the network.

Exclusive Airdrop Reserved for Genesis Ethernal Holders

To support its most loyal users, Anichess launched its Genesis Ethernals NFT collection on July 3. A total of 960 NFTs were minted for free, with only gas fees required. Each Ethernal is tied to one of six tribes from the game's world: Mountain Folk, Volcanic People, Storm Citizens, River Dwellers, Time Tinkerers, and Shadow People.

Ethernal holders were promised perks that include $C token airdrops, special staking pools, and in-game boosts. With $C now confirmed as $CHECK, this group will be among the first to benefit from the upcoming token launch. They will get 10% of the token supply, given away in scaled amounts depending on their NFT's rarity tier.

Backed by Chess.com and Animoca Brands

Anichess is being built through a partnership between Animoca Brands and Chess.com, the world's largest online chess platform. Since its reveal in 2023, the project has raised $3.3 million in funding and run several gameplay tests and events.

Chess legend Magnus Carlsen has also voiced support for the game, calling Anichess "the most exciting variant" of chess he has ever seen. The game adds spells and magical mechanics on top of classic chess rules, offering a new type of tactical challenge. These mechanics are built around a mana system, allowing players to cast spells like teleportation, stuns, and piece swaps.

Building for the Next Generation of Chess Fans

With over 200 million users on Chess.com, Anichess is looking to bring a new generation of players into web3. Its social media content, especially short-form videos on TikTok, has helped drive interest beyond the crypto space. The team reports that over 100 million people have been reached across platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, and Instagram.

These efforts are paired with esports events and live tournaments, including the Bybit Blitz Cup and a recent public match featuring Magnus Carlsen. In March 2025, Carlsen took part in an exhibition game using Anichess's spell-based format.

Genius Score Tracks Player Reputation

As part of the Checkmate ecosystem, Anichess has added a reputation system called Genius Score. This feature tracks user actions across social media, in-game achievements, and onchain activity. Each player gets a score based on their performance, community involvement, and early adoption of key projects.

Genius Score is set to play a role in the wider ecosystem as new games join the platform. It also adds another layer of value for long-term players who want to build a public reputation within the Checkmate network.

Sandbox Mode to Support UGC in Anichess

Another upcoming feature is the Anichess Sandbox. This mode will let players create and test new game formats, spells, and rule sets. Access will be gated through the $CHECK token, which acts as both an entry pass and a reward system for those who take part.

Through the Sandbox, users can prompt game logic through a chat interface, experiment with spell combos, and help shape future content for the platform.

Token Launch Timed with Growing Community Interest

With Season 4 already showing strong engagement, the $CHECK TGE will arrive at a time when player interest in Anichess is near its peak. The game has moved from solo puzzles to live competitive matches and now supports several play modes, including ranked, quick matches, friend battles, and bot training.

Upcoming events like the Kaito Yap to Earn campaign are expected to further boost awareness ahead of the TGE. While no official date has been set yet, Anichess has confirmed the token will go live before the end of 2025.

For players, builders, and web3 creators, $CHECK will serve as the main token across gameplay, governance, and community rewards, not just in Anichess, but across the wider Checkmate ecosystem.
