The developers of Anichess, a free to play chess game with a magical twist, have officially added in a new on-chain points system called M8.

What Is M8 in Anichess?

M8 is a new on-chain points system built on the Base network to reward active Anichess players with M8 Points that will come with varied utility in the future.

By simply playing at least one Quick or Ranked Match every day, you will qualify for 10 M8 Points. You don’t need to win the match to get the points either – what matters is that you simply play the web3 game.

What kind of utility can you expect with these points? Well, according to the official Medium announcement, collecting M8 Points could bring you a number of in-game benefits in the future. These utilities are said to include the ability to unlock new spells and new cosmetics, as well as the option to redeem lootboxes and participate in a high-stakes game mode called Gambit. Cosmetics are set to include chess pieces, boards, and backgrounds, while lootboxes will feature elemental drops (Fire, Water, and Earth) and some will potentially come with the upcoming $C token that is set to airdropped to qualifying users that claim Checkmate Foundation’s new Genius Score. Gambit is a token duel game mode where you will need to pay a certain unspecified entry fee in M8 Points to participate.

If you like the sound of these utilities, then you should start playing and claiming M8 Points right away to collect as many as you can before these new features drop. Here’s how you can claim them every day.

How to Claim M8 Points in Anichess

A daily claim system has been implemented in Anichess to allow eligible players to claim M8 Points from Monday to Friday, with claims on Monday covering points earned from matches played on, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as well.

The daily cycle window takes place from 00:00 to 23:59 UTC. The claim window opens every weekday at 07:00 UTC. If you play at least 1 Quick or Ranked Match during the designated timeframe, you’ll qualify for claimable M8 Points. Make sure to come back and claim daily on eligible days, because if you played matches and didn’t claim your points before the start of the next daily cycle, your M8 will then unfortunately expire.

If you have unclaimed points you’d like to claim for the day, simply click on the M8 Claim button found on the top section of the game.

After the end of each cycle, the team will process and evaluate your score before publishing your score on-chain. This is said to take a few hours, according to the official X post.

If you played during Anichess Season 3, which was also the game’s public alpha launch that came with a partnership with Yield Guild Games, then good news for you – all the on-chain points you collected during the season have been converted into M8 Points, without you needing to do anything to get them into your current balance.

With this new on-chain points system and the addition of the Genius Score for the $C airdrop, playing this blockchain-powered chess game now has certainly become more alluring than ever before.
