22Cans Teases Upcoming Features for Legacy

Developer 22Cans has announced various upcoming features for their business sim, Legacy, a month after the Web3 title officially launched.

What’s New in Legacy?

One of the team’s first planned feature updates came out on November 29th, marking the introduction of the Handicap system, which is the start of what the next phase of the game’s development, referred to as the “Fairness Update.” This new feature is a revised matchmaking system with handicaps, meaning that all players in an event start off with a handicap score of 0. If a higher-ranked player gets relegated to one league down, the announcement states that they are given a “handicap relative to their original league, and the event league they have been moved to.” This handicap is increased the bigger the difference between player levels is present. The way a more advanced player may be handicapped can vary based on the event in question, but what this overall means though is that players who have way more advanced towns compared to the rest will be handicapped with an initial deficit they’ll have to break through. 

By setting up this system, the developers aim to make it fair for newer players that end up getting matched with an experienced one, as the previous system, coupled with bugs, wasn’t quite as balanced as the team hoped for in such a competitive title. As such, the developers have listened to player feedback and implemented this system for the long-term, meaning it will likely be adjusted over time in order to provide a balanced experience. According to the studio, the system will not have “an immediate effect on users as it will still require a larger pool of players to fill out the gaps.”

Upcoming Features

22Cans is bringing new content in the form of 2 new districts and a new product line: Teddy Bears.  They are also adding a feature that makes it possible for players to view winning designs in any Design Competition.

During Christmas, the team is looking to launch a User Acquisition campaign supported by Gala Games in an effort to grow the playerbase while keeping existing players engaged. There will be increased marketing spending for the New Year, while the maximum keys per deed will be increased by up to 5 times at no additional cost.

The Events schedule will also be overhauled with new types of Events, with plans to add in an opt-in lobby based model in Q1 2024. This model will let players view what league the event is for before choosing to enter.
