0.5% of Axie Infinity Population Banned over Energy Abuse

Sky Mavis banned around 30,000 Axies from Axie Infinity over the accusation of energy abuse. The Vietnamese game studio noted that Axies sold off prior to the ban taking effect, will soon be unbanned. Future bans will happen instantly to avoid cheaters selling off their NFTs.

Axie Infinity is one of the leading games in the play-to-earn revolution, allowing players to earn SLP tokens through gameplay. This earning mechanic has become a beacon of hope for thousands of so-called scholars, looking to improve their standard of living through gameplay.

Right now there are more than 5.8 million Axies on the marketplace. The 30,000 that were banned represent 0.5% of the total population. If you think that's little, the percentage is comparable with the United States banning citizens from Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago all together. It makes quite an impact on the Axie nation and the citizens of Lunacia.

What is energy abuse

Users who own 10 or more Axie NFTs will receive 40 energy, allowing them to play more games. Energy abuse happens when someone manipulates the system in an effort to maximize their energy while also gifting the Axies to third parties. Because the Energy calculation happens once per day, they call this energy abuse. It's against the terms of service, set by Sky Mavis.

Keep in mind, this is not the first time Axie Infinity has wielded the banhammer. They are pretty tough against cheating and abusing. Axies used by cheaters will be labeled as such, rendering them useless in the game and worthless on the marketplace. Supposedly banned Axies will be able to return to the arena at some point, but that's all up to Sky Mavis. The team also issues permanent bans, depending on a severity of the 'crime'. So as an investment these are super risky.

Sky Mavis wants to keep their ecosystem clean of cheaters, and give everybody a fair chance to play and earn. As players always try to beat the system, the developers must take a stance against abuse and cheating.
