Here's all you need to know about the latest Web3 feature by Spotify
Global streaming platform Spotify is dipping its toes into Web3 again. This time, the company is testing token-enabled playlists, which allow NFT holders to connect their crypto wallets and listen to curated music.
Currently, the service is available to owners of popular NFT collections, such as Moonbirds, Fluf, Overlord, and KINGSHIP. The pilot run is available for Android users in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, with a testing period of three months.
Web3 gaming and media universe Overlord was the first to share the news on Twitter last week. Accordingly, holders of its lizard-themed Creepz NFT project can connect their Web3 wallets on Spotify to access "Invasion," a special playlist curated by the community.
KINGSHIP, an NFT supergroup from Universal Music Studio, has also dropped a token-gated playlist for NFT owners that includes tracks from Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. Only KINGSHIP Key Card NFT holders can access the playlist on Spotify.
Apoorv Lathey, the lead developer of NFT liquidity protocol NFTX, also tweeted a screenshot from the pilot run, demonstrating how to access the KINGSHIP playlist. To listen to the curated music, holders must connect a crypto wallet, such as Trust Wallet, Rainbow, MetaMask, Ledger Live, or Zerion wallets.
While Spotify has not officially announced the launch of this token-gated feature, the company appears to have confirmed the pilot test in a tweet reply above. The global streaming platform, which has over 489 million users, has previously experimented with NFT integrations. In May 2022, the company allowed a select group of artists, including Steve Aoki and The Wombats, to promote NFTs on their profiles.
