Blockchain gaming studio Obitus Games has officially released a preview of the game economy and P2A roadmap for their free to play Immutable-backed card battler OverKnights.
How Will the OverKnights Economy Enable P2E Gameplay?
The game’s economy is designed to be long-term sustainable and fun to participate in while avoiding turning the web3 title into a pay to win game. Anyone will be able to enjoy the game as a free to play title while taking part in a blockchain-powered economy that revolves around using the $OVC token and in-game NFTs (Booster Packs, Cards, Parts, Cosmetics) in ways that contribute to the overall gameplay experience.
There will be a number of ways to earn in-game NFTs through gameplay, with the main one being the game’s PvP ranked system: the Climb of the Libra Tower. This core gameplay system will have players engage in Anima Duels across different floors of the tower, earning on-chain assets that are released in limited time editions. If you don’t earn a certain collectible during the available timeframe, you will be able to complete your collection by buying items from other players through the in-game marketplace.
The NFTs you can earn in-game give you more ways to personalize your experience while adding more options in strategically creating various loadouts. You will be able to earn Booster Packs, Parts, Cards, and Cosmetics.
Booster Packs are opened to gain more Parts and Cards that come in different rarities. Parts alter appearance and the abilities you can use, enabling you to set up different loadouts, while Cards can be included into loadouts to add further strategic depth and more opportunities for powerful synergetic combos.
Players who want to boost their rewards and unlock exclusive content will be able to buy various items from the in-game shop using the upcoming $OVC token. With this currency, you will be able to buy Battle Passes, Reward Boosters, Booster Packs, Consumables, and Cosmetics.
Battle Passes give you access to limited time mission packs through which you can earn premium content, while Reward Boosters give you bonus goodies for each win in the ranked Libra Tower. You will also have the option to purchase Booster Packs to unlock useful items at a faster rate, with a cap set to be in place to limit how many of these packs you can buy each day. Various consumables will be available on rotation, alongside a variety of premium cosmetics.
While these are all the items you can choose to buy with the $OVC token through the game’s official shop, how do you actually earn the $OVC token? To earn $OVC, you will be able to sell Booster Packs, Parts, Cards and Cosmetics to other players directly through the in-game marketplace. This means that earning in-game NFTs through ranked PvP gameplay and then selling them is your primary gateway to accumulating $OVC tokens, according to what the official preview has revealed so far. The in-game marketplace will be orderbook-driven, so you will be able to place sell orders and earn $OVC once they are fulfilled, with a small fee taken by the studio on all these transactions.
In order to foster a healthy token and ensure long-term sustainability, the team will add in a buyback system. This means that the developers will use in-game generated revenue to periodically buy $OVC from the open market and then burn it to lower token supply.
To make sure this web3-powered economy is easily accessible to anyone, regardless of their crypto experience, the team will make it possible to buy $OVC tokens directly in-game “with very low friction at their own discretion”, making it possible for any gamer to easily buy other on-chain items from the in-game shop or the player-driven in-game marketplace.
Before all that happens though, you can look forward to the upcoming play to airdrop campaign in which anyone will have a chance to secure an allocation of the upcoming $OVC token. Here is the roadmap preview teasing how this will work.

Roadmap Preview Teases Play to Airdrop Plans
According to the roadmap preview, the game’s Play to Airdrop Phase will consist of 3 seasons in which you can compete to earn the $OVC token ahead of TGE.
Each season, players will have multiple ways to earn an $OVC airdrop while attempting to earn other rewards as well. There will be 2 different gameplay modes to play and earn in: Prize Pool Leaderboards and Questing.
The Prize Pool Leaderboards will allow you to earn USDC rewards by being among the best PvP players during a season. Questing is where you will be able to secure $OVC airdrops by completing a variety of different quests. Though specifics have not been revealed, you can probably expect to see both social and gameplay-focused quests.
To enhance your experience during the P2A phase, you will be able to buy the VIP Pass. While the price does not seem to be known yet, buying the VIP Pass will give you reward multipliers for both the USDC Prize Pool leaderboards and for the airdrop quests as well, so if you want to maximize your potential rewards, then you might want to purchase this reward-boosting item.
If you hold a Genesis Pilot NFT (which just recently sold out), you too can look forward to gaining unique benefits during the airdrop seasons. Some of the perks you can expect include special airdrop quests, maximum reward boosts, and more.
