Axie Champions, a casual Web3 title in development by experienced mobile game developer Bali Games, is planned to officially launch in beta in July this year on the Ronin Network, a Layer 2 chain from Sky Mavis.
Axie Champions is a Match 3 puzzle game mixing up PvP gameplay to add a level of competitiveness to the well-known old-school genre while also adding blockchain technology in order to provide a level of security and ownership of digital assets, as well as incentive in the form of rewards. Set in the Axie universe, it seems that players will get to utilize what the studio refers to as Champions to engage in PvP battles through Match 3 gameplay. Just like in Axie Infinity, each player will make a team of 3 Champions which will then be used to compete against others in a PvP League and Championship. As seen in the image embedded in the Twitter thread down below These Champions seem to be armored machines controlled by Axies, so you’ll likely be able to use your Axies to have them ride on these Champions.
As mentioned in the official thread from the developers, the game is currently in the alpha, but is set to head into beta testing in July this year, allowing “Axie holders and community members” a chance to play and provide feedback, potentially earning rewards for “early engagement” in the process.
Alongside the launch of $RON staking, Bali Games was revealed as one of the first game studio partners to be developing a blockchain title on the Ronin Network. Previously, they’ve been known in the traditional mobile gaming world for the Korean mobile puzzle game called Anipang, which has so far generated $1.8 billion in gross revenue, as well as more than 130 million downloads.
Next to this title, one of the other games that have recently been announced to be making its way to Ronin is The Machines Arena, a top-down hero shooter now available in closed beta.
