Footium, the blockchain-powered football management game, has officially confirmed the launch of Season 5, began February 25, 2025. The season introduces refinements to gameplay mechanics, transfer policies, and in-game rewards, aiming to improve both strategic depth and user engagement.

Key Updates for Season 5

Real Money Rewards and Claiming Process

Players who secured top-seven positions in their leagues during Season 4 can claim real-money rewards via the Footium Hub, which launched on February 20. The platform’s one-click claim system streamlines the process, allowing users to consolidate all club earnings in a single transaction. The rewards system will be periodically updated throughout Season 5 as club owners engage in academy signings, transfers, and legendary player auctions.

Adjustments to Match Mechanics

The Footium development team has introduced balance changes to refine match strategies. The impact of extreme tactical settings, such as Ultra Defensive or Ultra Attacking, has been reduced to encourage a more strategic, balanced approach to gameplay. In addition, player injuries will now take effect from day one, with any player whose condition drops below 45% facing a 50-hour recovery period.

A major structural change this season is the introduction of a Limited Transfer Window, running for two days on Matchdays 9 and 10 (March 3–4). This allows club managers to unregister up to five players, instantly converting them into free agents available for transfers.

  • Free agents can be signed at any time, but players sold outside this limited period will remain registered with their current clubs until the next unlimited transfer window at the start of Season 6.
  • The metadata tagging system on OpenSea now includes a distinct marker for unregistered players, improving visibility for potential transfers.

Legendary Player Auctions

Footium will reintroduce Legendary Players, high-potential assets with 95–99 overall potential ratings.

  • A total of 12 Legendary Players will be auctioned in batches, each containing at least one central defender, midfielder, and forward.
  • 50% of the auction proceeds will be allocated to rewards, distributed equally across divisions.
  • The auction process will be conducted via OpenSea, with the first batch beginning on February 20.
  • Reserve players will no longer be visible in the tactics UI or manually movable but will automatically fill gaps when needed.
  • The match commentary system has been enhanced to deliver more engaging play-by-play insights, improving the spectating experience.

Academy Player Refresh and Training Updates

Each club will receive seven new academy prospects at the start of the season. These players can be signed directly into squads, even outside the transfer window.

  • The signing cost varies by division, with higher divisions receiving prospects with greater potential.
  • Footium now requires Ethereum on the Arbitrum Network for academy player transactions, with 90% of mint fees contributing directly to division rewards.

Training sessions for Season 5 will run from February 25 to March 18, with any ongoing training at the season’s end automatically completing.

Inactive Clubs and League Regulations

Footium continues its approach of relegating inactive clubs to the Amateur League to maintain competition integrity. Clubs that do not actively train, play matches, or sign new players will be flagged as inactive.

  • Division 8 and Division 7 relegation zone clubs risk demotion to the Amateur League.
  • Clubs previously relegated can request re-entry into the Footium Football League (FFL) through the club page.

With Season 5 kicking off on February 25, club managers are gearing up for another competitive season, strategizing transfers, academy signings, and gameplay tactics. As Footium evolves, the latest changes signal a step toward enhanced realism and deeper managerial decision-making in blockchain-powered football gaming.
