Derby Stars, a free-to-play horse racing game, has been updated to version 0.9.5, introducing various new items to the Polygon-based title, including a new feature called the Horse Retirement System.

Horse Retirement System

The Horse Retirement System is the game’s highly-anticipated new NFT burning feature that can be used over on their official website. By using the new system, players are able to retire (burn) their Horse NFT in exchange for the Essence of a Horse NFT, a new item for which more details are available below.

By retiring your horse, the NFT becomes unusable in the game, as it gets burned by being sent to an inaccessible null address. This process cannot be reversed, so make sure you think carefully before using this system. If the retired horse had any cores equipped, they will be automatically unequipped, while the maximum energy you have will change accordingly to the number of horses actually in your stable. The retired horse of course cannot be available on marketplaces, and while it will continue to stay on the PvP Leaderboards, it won’t be eligible to receive rewards.

New Items

With this update, the developers have introduced Essence of a horse as previously mentioned, as well as the Stardust of Rarity.

Essence is a new tradable NFT acquired by retiring a horse. It comes in different grades depending on the rarity and origin of the horse it came from. Using this new item is essentially like a lootbox, as through it you have a chance of being rewarded with a random item such as Dana’s Hammer.

Stardust of Rarity lets you increase the chances of hatching a rare foal. The item has different grade, which alter the increase in probability of a rare horse birth.
