Animoca Brands Japan, a subsidiary of the renowned investor in blockchain gaming, and digital collectibles marketplace Quidd, who are also a subsidiary of the same Web3 company, have officially announced that they have formed a partnership in order to work together on creating a customized service focused on bringing anime and manga to the Western market.

Service Details

Through this this customized service, the two sides aim to bring Japanese IP to the West by fusing their expertise. With Animoca subsidiary’s knowledge of Japanese IP and Quidd’s “innovative collectible marketplace technology,” the partnership is supposed to lead to the creation of a service through which anime and manga fans will be able to collect and own digital collectibles of their favorite brands and characters. This also means that users will be able to own NFTs too. The collectibles will come in a variety of different form factors that include digital decorative pieces, digital memorabilia and digital art.

The CEO of Quidd, Michael Bramlage, said the following in the official press release:

“Global demand for anime and manga content is skyrocketing. We are thrilled to partner with Animoca Brands Japan, a leading global Web3 company and licensee of prominent Japanese IPs, to help anime and manga fans collect anytime they want, anywhere they reside in the world. This partnership will demonstrate the unique capabilities of digital collectibles as a fast, fun, and entirely borderless way to collect.”

Quidd’s technology will be used as the foundation for Animoca Brands Japan to use in order to develop a service that will house popular anime and manga collectible content. This means that it will be “fully compatible with Quidd's eight million registered collectors,” most of which are from Europe and North America, according to the announcement.

Daisuke Iwase, the CEO of Animoca Brands Japan, added:

“We are excited to strike this technical and commercial partnership with Quidd. Given Quidd’s proven track record with digital collectibles, robust proprietary technology, and compliance with widely-adopted regulations, it was an easy decision to build our business on top of the Quidd platform.”

The marketplace will feature both off-chain digital collectibles and on-chain assets in the form of NFTs, with some off-chain items set to have a feature that allows owners to convert their collectibles into non-fungible tokens.
