Mark Zuckerberg has recently shared what he thinks about Apple’s new mixed reality device, the Vision Pro, in a recent companywide meeting at Meta’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
This is the first such large meeting to be held by the Facebook corporation since 2020. During it he revealed his opinion, claiming that while Apple’s vision could well be the “future of computing,” this version of the future is “not the one that I want,” says the Meta CEO, whose Quest 3 aims to head in a different direction.
According to Zuckerberg, the Quest devices are aimed at promoting a sense of togetherness, an encouragement of social interaction through mixed reality experiences. This feeling of being closer with others is something that Apple did not show in their reveal of the Vision Pro, according to the Meta CEO, who said that “I think that their announcement really showcases the difference in the values and the vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important.”
He also said how Meta’s direction is one that not only promotes social interaction in new ways, but also physical activity too, while “By contrast, every demo that they showed was a person sitting on a couch by themselves.”
Overall, Zuckerberg states that there is “a real philosophical difference in terms of how we’re approaching this,” while also saying that Meta’s goal is to “innovate to make sure that our products are as accessible and affordable to everyone as possible, and that is a core part of what we do.”
The Meta Quest 3 is scheduled to launch sometime in fall later this year with a starting price of $499.99 for a wireless headset with 128 GB of space. You can check out more about what Mark Zuckerberg had to say about his competitor’s device at the meeting through an article from The Verge, who watched the meeting and reported the CEO’s full speech on Apple’s headset.
While Zuckerberg downplayed the new device, The Sandbox COO had a different take, showing optimism in the launch of Apple’s headset.
