The gaming team of Zilliqa has officially announced that it is developing Unity SDKs to streamline the process of making games for the Zilliqa network using the popular Unity game engine.

The Zilliqa team said the following in their blog post:

"Interoperability is an essential piece of the puzzle in building out long-term (and bringing in mainstream) adoption of blockchain, and as such, also underpins Zilliqa's gaming strategy. We're working to make it as easy as possible for independent developers, gaming studios, and everyone in between to integrate their games with Zilliqa."

The first version is now publicly available over on GitHub, which supports the latest Unity versions, v2020 LTS and v2021 LTS, as well as the older ones. "Ultimately, our goal is to develop a set of SDKs to lay the foundation for a wider gaming ecosystem with Zilliqa, and to enable these projects to integrate within Metapolis," with Metapolis described as being a metaverse-as-a-service platform.

"As we move forward, our focus has shifted towards delivering more features. We've delivered support for NFT integration in the SDK v2.1 (available here). More features will be added in time to come as our development team expands with the addition of more top-level, senior staff with extensive experience in Unity3D internals and blockchain topics."

Leading the new gaming team developing these software development kits is Valentin Cobelea, Head of Gaming Technology. On the business side of things is Tom Fleetham, Head of Business Development - Sports & Gaming. The former has worked with Intel, Siemens and various AAA gaming companies, amassing about 2 decades of experience, while the latter has worked for IBM for the last 10 years, forming partnerships and lately spearheading the company's Sports & Entertainment division.
