Collectible card-based MOBA Wildcard has officially been listed on Steam, so you can now easily wishlist the web3 game and sign up for closed alpha playtests ahead of its planned 2025 launch.
What Does Wildcard’s Steam Listing Reveal?
Anyone can now find the blockchain game on PC’s biggest gaming platform and not only wishlist it ahead of release, but also sign up for upcoming playtests. An exact release date is not available, with the page only mentioning 2025 as the launch timeframe. This will likely be free to play. The store page features info on the core gameplay, alongside stylish screenshots, a teaser video, and a playtest trailer to show gameplay in action. System requirements are yet to be determined.
Of course, no usage of web3 features or blockchain technology is mentioned, and since crypto and NFTs are banned on Steam, don’t expect this version of the game to include any such components. However, if you’d like to support the game and help it reach a wider web2 gaming audience, then make sure to wishlist it as soon as possible, as that will help the game potentially gain visibility on Valve’s platform.
That being said, we can likely expect to see an Epic Games Store listing happen at some point in the future to make it easier for gamers interested in web3 to experience everything this blockchain title has to offer. Whether that will happen has not yet been officially announced though at the time of writing.
How to Sign Up for Wildcard’s Upcoming Closed Alpha Playtests
If you’re interested in trying the game out in closed alpha and providing feedback to help the developers deliver a high-quality gaming experience, you can actually now easily sign up for future playtests through the new store page. Simply head on over to the Steam page, wishlist the game, and click on the green “Request Access” button to sign up for upcoming closed alpha playtests. That’s all you have to do if you want to have a chance at participating. Details on when the next playtest will go live does not seem to be available at the time of writing, nor do we know how many users will be picked to play. The last playtest took place on February 14th, 4 days before the listing happened.

What Is Wildcard?
Wildcard is a real-time PvP card-based MOBA in which players choose a unique champion and prepare their deck of companion cards to jump into strategic and action-packed third-person matches. Champions are the actual playable characters that have their own distinct abilities to tactically use in team-based battles, while companion cards make up your deck from which you can summon special allies to aid you in intense fights.
Not only does this game blend cards with RTS and MOBA elements, but it also adds a social aspect by including spectator features. As you battle it out on varied arenas, spectators can further make matches more exciting by activating live reactions, effects, and even events to make each game more unpredictable than the last.
In terms of web3 features, those seem to mainly revolve around owning in-game assets as tradable NFTs.
This game is in development by The Wildcard Alliance, a division of parent company Playful Studios that raised $46 million in 2022 to support the team and development of this web3-powered game. In 2023 they launched the Genesis WildPass NFT collection, which unlocks exclusive benefits and is available on Magic Eden via the Polygon network for the floor price of 0.54 WETH at the time of writing. Later that year, holders were given the option to mint the Wildfile soulbound token for exclusive rewards and more. In 2024, Wildcard announced Thousands, a new streaming platform for web3 esports.
