Zillion Whales has released a new update for free-to-play card RTS Wild Forest, fundamentally changing some systems to provide a better gaming experience for all, including Web2.
Update Details
The latest update makes it so that Units are now in-game items. Players can turn them into Unit NFTs at any time by paying a mint gas cost. This minting feature however is not available for Beta Units.
Unit Rank Up is now available as an in-game feature in the Unit Details screen. The function can be used with both in-game and Unit NFTs. This means that, if you authorize the process, the Unit NFTs will be burned and you will gain a higher ranked in-game Unit.

In order to lower latency in matches, the studio has released a P2P (peer-to-peer) system to allow for direct connection between two players. By utilizing this system, the developers hope everyone gets to enjoy better matchmaking where gameplay feels smoother than before. As of writing though, this system has been turned off in order to fix some matchmaking problems, but it likely won’t be long before its back up and running.
$WF Token Updates
The studio has also introduced an off-chain WF token. Once the game releases, you’ll be able to deposit and withdraw these tokens to on-chain $WF. Using the off-chain variant, players can use the Rank Up function, with more premium features to be added in the future.
In the Substack post, the developers suggest that players should deposit Beta $WF from their Ronin wallet into the game. Withdrawing $WF and minting NFTs for Beta assets however is not available in order to prevent abuse. Both mechanisms will be available for use after the game launches.
Last week, Wild Forest raised $500k in a seed round featuring Animoca Brands, OKX Ventures and more.
