Following the end of Season 4: The Power of Leaderboard, developer Zillion Whales has now officially kicked off Season 5: Great Battlefields for card RTS Wild Forest, giving players more time to participate in the play-to-airdrop system during the beta phase before the game officially launches in Q2 2024.
What’s New in Season 5?
For Season 5, the studio pushed out an update that introduced a new battle system that limits unit production for a new strategic gameplay experience. Next to that, the rc/0.0.5.1 update released on March 11th added in 4 new maps in an entirely new desert biome, bringing its own terrain challenges for players to face and use to their advantage. The transition speed to day and night has been increased from 10 seconds to 1 second, making it quicker for players to begin their stealthy night movements. A new Uncollected Rewards button has also been added, so you no longer need to individually collect each reward but can now instead get everything unlocked so far in the Battle Pass.
New Battle System
Previously the system was 4-3-2, which meant that you could have 4 of the same Tier 1 units, 3 Tier 2 units and 2 Tier 3 units on the battlefield at the same time. This has now changed to a 2-2-2 system, making it so you can only place 2 of the same type of units from each tier, meaning that instead of having 4 Swordsmen and 4 Archer units on the field, you can now only have 2 of each unit. The developers are experimenting with unit production limits with the hopes of creating gameplay that requires more creative tactics and in-depth deck building. Overall, the community seems to have responded positively to this latest change.
Aside from these and a couple of more changes, the way the Premium Battle Pass unlock works remains the same, and so does leaderboard reward distribution, where players can get $WF tokens by ranking in the top 1000. The season started on March 13th and ends in about 20 days from the time of writing.
