Pantera Capital bets big on Worldwide Webb

Worldwide Webb, a pixel-based metaverse game, has secured $10 million in a Series A funding round from Pantera Capital. The funding will be used to expand the team, integrate more NFT collections into the game, and form partnerships with brands and IP holders.

Launched in 2020, Worldwide Webb is a meta-RPG where players can bring their own NFTs from multiple blockchains to be used as avatars in battles, quests, and raids. The project began raising funds in the 2nd quarter of last year and closed the deal by the end of December.

"Worldwide Webb bridges the gap between traditional gaming and NFT communities via an ever-expanding catalog of browser-based mini-games, where every player can leverage a unique identity in the form of an NFT," said Pantera investment associate Sehaj Singh.

"Not only has Webb's rapid iteration on game development led to fun and engaging mini-games, but the Worldwide Webb platform has provided yet another channel for NFT communities to enhance engagement and community building."

According to reports, Worldwide Webb is set to launch its browser-based PvP game Blockbusterz in the coming weeks. Players holding NFTs from different collections such as CryptoPunks, BAYC, or Doodles can face off against each other in battle tournaments. Those who win more battles will gain access to higher NFT mint levels.

Other than that, the company is using various tools to bring more brands into its ecosystem. One of them is through virtual land, where NFT projects and businesses can build their presence in the Worldwide Webb.

"We're building tools to allow them to bring their IP into the game. This is through land where they can build spaces, integrate their existing NFTs and build new ones into the Webb ecosystem," wrote CEO Thomas Webb in an email to CoinDesk.

"We're excited to build long-term relationships with brands and IP as we not only integrate their NFTs as avatars but also bring their IP into the Webb universe through meaningful in-game features such as quests, boss fights, items, and more."
