Thrive on Mars, a blockchain RTS previously known as Colonize Mars, is set to receive a new update next week that will introduce a new system for dynamic weather and hazards.

Update Details

Releasing at some point during next week, the updated system categorizes Hazards into Primary and Secondary types. The difference between the two types is that Primary Hazards happen because of natural causes, appearing directly from the environment and lasting longer while having a significant impact, while Secondary Hazards are created from the primary ones, inflicting additional downtime for recovery. Specifically, Primary Hazards include Dust Storms, Static Storms, Screeching Winds, and Brtittle Airlines, while Secondary Hazards are Viruses, Injuries, Mechanical Failures, Contaminated Ice and Crop Blight.

Up to now, players have only had to endure one hazard at a time, but with this update, there could be more than one occurring at the same time, leading to more realistic situations. When it comes to Mechanical Failures and Injuries, both will now be divided into Major and Minor variants, targeting randomly-selected Ownership and Sponsorship Cards every hour.

Intensity Ranges & Resistance Balance

The official announcement also reveals that intensity ranges for hazards have been normalized from 0 to 100, meaning it’s no longer 200 as it has been so far. This helps players better make tactical decisions as it “ensures that the Resistance percentage displayed accurately reflects the true likelihood of resisting a hazard.” This also means that Resistances have been balanced out by lowering them in order to have a somewhat bigger chance of resisting hazards. Innovations and Specialty bonuses however are said to remain the same, which should now make them even more useful than before.
