The famous blue creatures are heading to take over Web3, as The Smurfs Society, a PFP project officially backed by The Smurfs brand, has officially launched a Legendary Collection featuring 3D Smurf PFPs. They were recently sold through a bucket auction powered by NFT marketplace Rarible.
While the total supply of this collection is 12,500 NFTs, the auction consisted of 3000 PFPs and lasted from April 18th to April 20th. In this type of auction, the mint price is decided by participants, with a certain mechanism used to decide what the “clearing price” is, that is, what the price of 1 NFT should be. This means that if your bid is 1 ETH but the clearing price ends up being 0.7 ETH, you’ll end up getting 1 NFT while being refunded the remainder, whereas if you bid 1 ETH but the clearing price was 0.5 ETH, then you’ll get 2 NFTs instead. Bids below the clearing price are refunded.
The clearing price for this auction ended up being 0.173 ETH. Bidders weren’t able to choose which character they would like to get, while the 0.173 ETH clearing price will, according to the project’s official GitBook, be used as “the baseline” for the minting price of crystals, minus discount.
The collection however is not the only thing part of this project. There was also a Web3 minting game that was available to a limited number of players, that involved collecting items and mixing ingredients in order to have a chance at earning Crystals on the Polygon network. Owners of Crystals will be able to take part in the upcoming sale set to take place at the end of this month and last for 3 weeks, giving holders the opportunity to be part of an allow list that makes it possible to choose which Smurf you’d like to purchase.
According to the roadmap on the official website, there are plans to release more games, publish a whitepaper, launch a DAO and more from June of this year and onwards.
