Gaming metaverse The Sandbox has officially launched Game Maker 0.10, introducing a host of improvements and tools that build upon December’s Game Maker 0.9 while adding new features such as a new social and chat system, and more.

What’s New in 0.10?

The latest version of the no-code software enhances existing behaviors and components while adding new behaviors and components that help creators develop more varied gameplay than ever before. There are also new rules that help in streamlining gamepaly while offering more room for HUD customization. Development is now more accessible regardless of your skill level thanks to upgraded creation tools.

New Behaviors & Components

The new additions include the Spawn Point Behavior, Projectile Behavior, Raycast Component, Multi and Void, as well as enhanced Consumables (Collectable Component).

Spawn Points allow you to set up teams and choose at which locations players will spawn in, while also providing the ability customize starting equipment and avatar settings. You acn also send messages to each team using the Team Broadcast.

The Projectile Behavior makes it possible to configure custom projectile logic, adjusting settings such as trajectory, gravity, force, collider size, VFX and more. With the Raycast Component, players can aim and click to send out a ray that fires a message when colliding with an object in a specific range, making it possible for developers to create various triggers and animations useful for puzzles and potentially other types of gameplay.

Multi and Void is said to have been “ported over for multiplayer synchronization,” making it possible for players to destroy and create blocks with accurate spawning. Consumables have been improved to make it so that creators can trigger anything they want when an item from the inventory is consumed.

New Rules & Creation Tools

The newly-added rules help creators make new game mechanics, with the new additions including the Math Rule, Key Input Rule, Send Message Rule, On Player Join/Exit Trigger Rule, and new and upgraded HUD Rules. You can even import and export rules now as JSON text, allowing the community to share rules with each other.

Creators can now improve their workflow thanks to new tools that make developing easier than before. New tools include a new Hierarchy Panel, new Message Inspector, and the ability to generate a playtest link that you can share with friends to test the experience in the Game Client for up to 45 minutes.

The Home Screen has been overhauled with new features and new categories for templates, with 3 new gameplay templates now available: Tower Defense (revealed earlier this month), Cooking Simulation, and Backrooms.
