Bandai Namco has officially announced that the famous 90s toy brand is making a return with the launch of the Tamagotchi Uni, a new device that will be able to connect to the metaverse.

Users of the upcoming new device will be able to connect to the Tamaverse, described as “the metaverse of the Tamagotchi world” where users will together be able to enjoy various features, including Tama Arena, Tama Parties, Tama Fashion, and Tama Travel. There will be various mini-games to have fun in, among which include dancing by following the moves of your character, serving food, and more. 

Users of the device will have “endless character options” for personalizing their virtual pet, with Tamagotchi characters set to have “different looks, personalities, and even hobbies,” according to the announcement. Users will be able to connect via Wi-Fi and customize their characters as they hang out using the device’s social platform while enjoying various activities. For the first time ever, users will be able to use the device as a wearable accessory thanks to the introduction of a wristband, while familiar Tamagotchi characters will now be voiced.

The Senior Director of Brand Strategy at Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America, Tara Badie, said the following in the official press release:

"Tamagotchi fans are always looking for new ways to personalize their experience while nurturing their character, and Tamagotchi Uni opens the door to endless possibilities to do so. Not only are we thrilled to be able to give fans this opportunity, we're excited to see them in the Tamaverse!"

The company is promoting the brand’s “first simultaneous global launch of core Tamagotchi” by partnering with TikTok star Charli D'Amelio to be the global brand ambassador for the new device. Charli D'Amelio will promote the global launch by posting TikTok videos, doing interviews, and more. She had the following to say:

"I'm a HUGE Tamagotchi fan and I'm so excited to be able to partner with the brand to launch an all-new device designed for a new generation. The Tamagotchi Uni is a whole new experience and gives fans the opportunity to customize the play in an exciting and interactive new way!"
