The Beacon has officially announced a launch date for Season 1, now set for May 25, 2026. Initially expected in early next year, the launch has been pushed back by a few months as the developers focus on fine-tuning the game's systems and features.
The Beacon Season One Arrives in May
The first full season, titled "Goblins' Gambit," will be the start of The Beacon's seasonal cycle. It comes with a new gameplay loop where players can engage in risk-based dungeon runs to gather loot and earn Umbra Shards. These shards can be used to trade for goods or put on the line in higher-stakes events like the Lucky Kraken challenge.
The Beacon team shared the updated details in a public X post on December 17. They stated that the move to May gives them more time to complete work on several important parts of the game. These include new dungeon layouts, combat systems, seasonal progression paths, and the foundation for future player-driven experiences.
What Is The Beacon?
The Beacon is a free to play fantasy action RPG with roguelite elements, now in development for desktop and browser. In this game, you enter ever-changing dungeons where you'll fight monsters, dodge traps, and improve your skills through fast-paced combat. Each run is unique, offering different maps, upgrades, and enemies.
There are 3 ways to play. You can dive into single-player PvE, team up for co-op dungeon runs, or just hang out with others in MMO-style social zones. A housing system lets anyone customize and decorate their in-game space. Combat is real-time, and timing plays a key role. While you start from scratch with each dungeon run, some parts of your progress carry over, making each attempt part of a larger climb forward.
Why the Delay Happened
The developers listed 4 key reasons behind the delay.
First, they want more time to improve core systems like combat, progression, and stability. These changes are meant to ensure the season goes live without major bugs or weak features.
Second, the team is aiming for impact over speed. They referenced the New Frontiers Quest, which brought over 220,000 daily users, as proof that waiting can help the game make a stronger debut.
Third, the update will help shape the future in-game economy. Season 1 is meant to launch new economic layers, and the developers believe this extra time will allow them to introduce these features in a clearer and more responsible way.
Finally, the systems supporting the game's long-term growth are still being finalized. These include social networks, combat upgrades, and tools that will eventually let players design their own dungeons and game modes.
What's Coming in The Beacon Season One
Set in a new underground area beneath Dawnport, Season 1 introduces a group of goblins who are surprisingly social and business-minded. These characters are central to the new gameplay loop, offering card games, underground deals, and other activities that change how players move through the world.
You will explore a new biome filled with fresh enemies, new dungeon layouts, and a new weapon. Each dungeon is procedurally generated, giving you a different path and challenge every time. Loot collected during these runs includes Umbra Shards, which can be spent or risked for greater returns.
The season will also expand the progression system, offering rewards based on performance and exploration. While the core experience is free to play, optional paid features and cosmetic items will also be available. The game continues to follow its mixed approach of offering both open access and paid enhancements.
Key Dates Before Launch
The Beacon has set February 24, 2026, as the first major pre-season event. This event will unlock access to some of the content planned for Season 1 and allow players to grab limited-time rewards.
The full launch of Season 1 will then take place on May 25. That date will also mark the start of the game's live era, with future content set to arrive in seasonal cycles. According to the team, this will let them produce new content faster over time, since many of the base systems will already be in place.
A Look Back at Recent Events
The delay follows a strong second half of 2025 for The Beacon. Back in September, the game hosted a speedrun tournament on Ronin. The contest offered 10,000 $RON in prize tokens and brought in hundreds of entries. Players competed to post the fastest dungeon runs, with the top 32 moving into a single-elimination bracket.
The final rounds took place in early October, with each match using a new dungeon layout. Top performers earned cosmetics like the Crimson Valkyrie's Call and cash rewards, while all participants received the Silver version of the item.
That event followed a public playtest from September 4 to 7 on the Epic Games Store. The test introduced new combat updates, dungeon mechanics, and limited-time challenges. It also marked the end of the game's short playtest cycles. The team confirmed then that future content would be released through live seasonal updates rather than isolated test periods.
What Makes Season 1 Different
Unlike past updates, Season 1 will include systems meant to last and grow over time. The developers describe it as the first step toward a version of the game where players help shape the world. Systems being finalized now, like social features and dungeon-building tools, are meant to support this direction.
Season 1 is also the point where economic features start to take shape. Though exact details are still being developed, the team confirmed that the season will introduce the game's long-term economy. This includes token-based systems that require clear communication and strong base design, which was another reason for the launch delay.
The delay to May is meant to give the team the time they need to ship this foundation without cutting corners. The Beacon's developers described this moment as a milestone that supports both the present launch and the future of the project.
What to Expect Next
With the new release date now set, you can expect a lead-up filled with pre-season content and smaller updates. The first of these arrives in February and will likely give a closer look at what the goblin-themed gameplay will involve.
