Villains: Robot Battle Royale has kicked off its Super Villain Championship. The latest update brings a ranked solo mode where only Super Villains can enter the battlefield. This mode is built for fast decision-making and high-skill plays, with rewards tied directly to final rankings. It's the most competitive format introduced so far.
The Championship follows a seasonal format, lasting 3 weeks per season. Players compete during the first 2 weeks and get a 1-week rest before the next round begins. Only players who have unlocked Super Villains can take part. Each match is part of a ladder system that determines placement, and those who rank highest will take home the most Night Stones, the game's newest in-app currency.
Super Villains Required to Join
To enter the ranked mode, players must use a Super Villain. These upgraded characters can only be unlocked once a villain reaches level 20. After that, they need to be "awakened" using Diamonds or Hell Points. Awakening turns the character into an NFT, with the game requiring a connected Immutable Passport account.
There are 4 possible Super Villain grades after awakening. The odds for each are:
Rare: 65%
Epic: 25%
Legendary: 8.5%
Mythic: 1.5%
Each grade has its own look and stat bonuses, and higher levels offer better Power Stone values. Players who want to climb higher can evolve these characters by combining duplicates. For example, 3 Rares make 1 Epic. Mythic-grade villains also unlock 2 additional options: fusion and rebirth. Both are reroll systems that can reset stats or boost power levels, but they consume resources.
Championship Format and Reward Breakdown
The Super Villain Championship runs in Solo Mode for now. Future seasons may include Duo or Squad options, but that's still in the works. During the ongoing season, players can also complete missions tied to the ranked format, offering more rewards based on activity and participation.
At the end of each season, Night Stones are handed out based on where players finish on the leaderboard. Here's how the rewards stack up:
1st Place: 28,500 Night Stones
2nd–3rd: 12,000 Night Stones
4th–10th: 3,000 Night Stones
11th–30th: 750 Night Stones
Night Stones are the newest form of currency in the game and were introduced on December 10. These stones can be used to buy Night Stone Boxes from the in-game Shop. The boxes always contain Power Shots, which are used to upgrade characters.
How to Get Night Stones
There are 2 main ways to earn Night Stones. One is by placing high in the Super Villain Championship. The other is through the currency exchange system that uses gMBX, the shared token used across all integrated MARBLEX games.
Players holding MBX on Immutable can swap them into gMBX using the MBX Swap system. From there, they can trade gMBX for Night Stones at the MBX Station. Swapping works both ways, so players can also convert gMBX back into MBX on Immutable if needed. All exchanges use a fixed 1:1 ratio.
There's a set policy for how much can be exchanged each day:
- Max daily volume: 10,000 gMBX
- Max per user: 1,000 gMBX
- Minimum exchange amount: 0.1 gMBX
- Max exchanges per user: 20
There's no fee for trading gMBX into Night Stones, but going the other way costs 15%.
A Closer Look at Villains: Robot Battle Royale
The Super Villain Championship comes just 2 weeks after the global launch of Villains: Robot Battle Royale. The game officially went live on November 26, and is playable on Android and iOS. It's built by Birdletter Inc. and powered by MARBLEX, the blockchain arm of Netmarble.
Each match in Villains lasts only 4 minutes. Players choose from a lineup of outlaw characters and control robot suits on a prison planet called Helcatraz. The main goal is survival. Matches are filled with close-quarter combat, short cooldowns, and real-time fights. Both solo and duo options are available in standard play.
Super Villains were introduced as part of the launch patch. This system lets you evolve regular villains into their NFT versions, opening access to ranked content and marketplace trading. Once awakened, these characters can appear in 4 different visual forms based on grade and can be improved further by consuming duplicates.
Powered by MARBLEX
Villains is part of the MARBLEX ecosystem, which has hosted other blockchain games like A3: STILL ALIVE, Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, and Meta Toy DragonZ Saga. The platform supports cross-chain swaps, in-game currency systems, and asset management tools like MBX Station.
Games under MARBLEX include various features from token trading to leaderboard events. Villains joins that group with its ranked championship and evolving character system. MARBLEX has also signed a support deal with Microsoft earlier this year, which may affect future updates or backend tools for games on the platform.
What's Next
Right now, the focus is on the ongoing Super Villain Championship and the new Night Stone economy. The team has confirmed that more modes like Duo and Squad battles will be added later, but no release window has been shared yet. For now, all competition takes place in Solo Mode.
Players who want to join the ranked format must first unlock and evolve their characters into Super Villains. With seasonal rewards now in place and a 3-week cycle already started, the top 30 ranked players will walk away with the largest amounts of Night Stones. These can be spent on boxes, used to power up characters, or held for future uses as more updates roll out.
