Australian game developer Thought Farm has announced a new feature, “Multiple Bumpkins,” is set to officially make its way to blockchain farming game Sunflower Land on Thursday, February 1st.

What Is the Multiple Bumpkins Feature?

As the name may imply, the new feature will allow you to add more than one Bumpkin on your land whenever you prestige. Adding more Bumpkins can be done using the UI at your house. You can use your own Bumpkin NFT from your wallet, but if you don’t have one, then you can also buy one with Block Bucks.

By adding this feature, players are able to further improve their farms as each Bumpkin has its own unique boost you can use to your advantage, though you can’t stack wearables with similar buffs, according to the official documentation, so you’ll want to have your Bumpkins wear wearables that don’t overlap, meaning you can have one Bumpkin equipped with Fruit-related wearables, another with crop wearables, and so on.

While all this might be what you’d expect the new feature to bring based on the name alone, what the name doesn’t imply however is that a significant change is on its way in regards to how Bumpkins actually work.

Moving Off-Chain

In order to get the new feature properly working, the developers have decided to move Bumpkin experience, skills and achievements from the blockchain over to the game’s database. By moving data off-chain, the team claims it is more “seamless & feasible to support Bumpkins inside of Sunflower Land without risk of Bumpkin sharing and exploits to bypass game restrictions.”

As a result of this change, this means that there won’t be any new Bumpkin NFTs anymore. This off-chain approach will be active from February 1st, while April 30th will mark the date for when players will no longer be able to deposit Bumpkin NFTs into the game. As a result, the team warns players to not buy a Bumpkin “for the wearables, experience, skills and achievements,” as this data will now go on your Account NFT instead. This means that the utility of Bumpkin NFTs will be for cosmetic purposes only, acting as a PFP. If you’d still like to make use of experience on a Bumpkin NFT from the marketplace, then you should make sure that Bumpkin is your primary one on your farm before February, with a specific date for when on-chain data will stop being read yet to be determined.
