Developer Janus Interactive has released an open beta trailer for their free-to-play collectible card game, Storm Warfare, which is set to soon publicly be available for download on the game’s official website for Mac and Windows PCs.
What Does the Trailer Show?
Almost 3 minutes long, this trailer for the open beta version of the free-to-play title introduces you to the setting and gameplay that you can expect to experience once the game goes live.
Setting
Set on the frontlines of WW2, players will jump into intense 1v1 matches placing themed cards on background art that resembles various battlefields. Some of the board art you’ll get to see are based on battles such as the battle of Normandy, the tank battles of Kursk, and the naval battles of the Pacific. The card art is also in tune with the setting, ranging from infantry and tanks to aerial and naval vehicles. Players also don the character profiles of Commanders backed by their relevant country flag.
Gameplay
When starting out, you’ll get to pick from various different factions that took part in WW2. These factions come with different advantages and disadvantages, with each catering to a certain playstyle and featuring their own cards. Create a deck of 30 cards to play strategic matches where you have to take out the opposing Commander to win the battle, with the option to swap out 3 different cards available at the start of a match.
As you’d expect from a trading card game, each card has Attack and Health points, as seen in the trailer, and they also have the “Command” point, which is the cost of deploying the card on the board. The trailer also shows that players can take advantage of special cards to change the flow of the game, such as Event Cards and Hero Cards.
Complete various missions and utilize the game’s on-chain system that allows you to trade in-game items as NFTs.
Initially scheduled to release on December 8th, the open beta launch has been moved to December 14th, 6 PM UTC, when the game will be available for download on the official website. The trailer however also teases that the game is coming soon to Steam, the Epic Games Store, Google Play Store and Apple App Store. According to the roadmap on the website, the open beta will make its way to Steam and the Epic Games Store sometime in January 2024.
