The Splinterlands team has announced an overhaul to its existing Ranked Rewards system. The update is meant to alleviate some of the current issues present in an effort to further the sustainability of the game’s play-to-earn economy.
“As most of you already know from listening to the weekly town halls, we have been working for a number of months now on a major overhaul to the ranked reward system in Splinterlands. In the past, we have mostly had to resort to quick, band-aid fixes just to keep things running and squash exploits, but now that we have significantly expanded the team we have finally had the time and resources to do a deep dive into the entire reward economy of the game.”
There’s a ton of new changes included for game elements such as reward shares, starter cards, loot chests, quest potions, daily quests (which will now be called Daily Focus) and more.
It will now no longer be possible to earn rewards using starter cards – this means that starter cards will actually reduce reward shares for every ranked victory. For example, having a team of 6 cards containing 4 starter cards means that you’ll only be able to get 33.33% of what you usually would earn.
Players who still have quest potions will soon no longer have them, as the developers have decided to remove them from their blockchain card game. Those who don’t end up using their quest potions will simply be refunded the corresponding amount spent on buying them in DEC.
While the code for this update is set to go out “during the week of May 22nd,” the new system itself will actually begin working at the start of a new season, that is, on May 31st.
