Wolf Game, one of the first big names in crypto gaming, has officially changed hands. As of September 15, 2025, Seedphrase has taken full ownership and creative control of the project from Pixel Vault, following that studio's shutdown.
The deal puts Wolf Game on a new path under the Abstract network and marks the start of a complete ecosystem reset. Updated gameplay modes and tighter control over in-game rewards are part of the planned relaunch.
Wolf Game's Origins and Early Success
Wolf Game first launched in November 2021 during the peak of the NFT bull run. The core idea was simple but risky. Players bought NFTs representing either Sheep or Wolves. Sheep could earn the game's token, $WOOL, while Wolves could steal it, and sometimes steal the Sheep NFTs themselves.
The project caught fire quickly. The original 10,000 NFTs sold out at 0.06942 ETH each. Within five days, over $52 million had been spent on the game. Wolf Game also pulled in top voices from the web3 space, including Gary Vee, Post Malone, and Gmoney.
The combination of play to earn mechanics, onchain action, and unpredictable outcomes made it a cultural touchpoint in early GameFi.
Pixel Vault's Exit and the Road to Abstract
Over the next few years, Wolf Game changed hands, most notably when Pixel Vault took over the IP in 2023. The studio later announced in July 2025 that it would shut down after four years. As part of that exit, it sold off major projects, including Wolf Game.
Earlier this month, Pixel Vault handed the game to Seedphrase, a longtime supporter and known figure in web3. Best known for his iconic CryptoPunk #8348 and DJ helmet modeled after it, Seedphrase has been involved in NFTs since 2018.
Wolf Game is now moving to Abstract, a newer chain focused on gaming and crypto apps for regular users. This shift opens the door to a clean restart and more direct control over the in-game economy.
A Full Reset, New Game Loops, and Fresh Mechanics
Under Seedphrase's leadership, Wolf Game will go through a full reset. The updated version will feature new reward systems, redesigned token mechanics, and a more structured player onboarding process. The goal is to fix long-standing problems like token inflation and high entry barriers for new players.
The game will now be split into shorter, session-based experiences. Players can expect daily playtime to last between 30 and 60 minutes, with each game loop designed to be rewarding but manageable.
Different zones like Valley and Caves will structure the new game world. For instance, the Caves: Dash & Grab mode will feature maze-like areas where players can win rewards through fast-paced action. Risk will remain a key part of the game, but mechanics will be clearer and more structured.
Seedphrase plans to keep things exciting while still familiar. "This new chapter is a partial reset designed to keep the game familiar for OGs while remaining fresh and exciting for newcomers," he said on X.
Token Control Through PlayPad
One of the biggest updates is the launch of PlayPad, a new system built to solve token distribution problems in GameFi. Many blockchain games rely on a constant flow of new players to stay alive. When that slows, so does the economy.
According to Seedphrase, PlayPad changes that by allowing 3rd-party projects to distribute their tokens through Wolf Game. These tokens will be part of gameplay, not just given away. The goal is to create real value for players while helping other projects grow their reach.
Seedphrase believes this solves a major issue in current GameFi. "We're planning to solve this by working with token projects to distribute a percentage of their tokens through the game," he told OpenSea in a recent interview.
Tools for Every Type of Player
Wolf Game's reset will also address different types of players. Larger players, often called whales, will be able to use automation tools to manage their resources with less effort. Meanwhile, smaller, more active players will benefit from manual controls and real-time strategy.
"Smaller, more active players will always have an advantage as they can constantly adjust their strategies," said Seedphrase. "But for time-poor individuals… they will opt for automation."
With that, the update focuses on fairness and flexibility. Everyone should have a way to play, whether they have lots of time or just a few minutes each day.
Rebuilding Community and Culture
No doubt, Wolf Game is not just a game. It also holds cultural value in the web3 world. The project built a tight-knit community during its early days and was one of the first games to combine digital identity, social play, and onchain risk.
Seedphrase is looking to rebuild that connection. He plans to use his own reach across the web3 domain to help bring new players into the fold. Partnerships with brands and creators are expected to be a key part of the relaunch.
He also wants to boost storytelling. The game's existing lore, including The Shepherd and the crowned Wolves, will be expanded. New media formats and interactive experiences will help players explore the game world in more depth.
Aiming for a True GameFi Experience
Seedphrase has made it clear that his goal is to create a "true GameFi experience." That means a game where players can earn rewards, enjoy strategy-based play, and take part in a living economy.
In the past, he said, too many crypto games fell short. They were either too random or too focused on grinding. With Wolf Game, he wants to combine fun, risk, strategy, and rewards into a single package.
"It's been an incredible journey so far, but I've always felt I had unfinished business in gaming," he said. "I was never fully satisfied with past crypto game development, and I'm now on a mission to create an experience that will resonate with players worldwide."
No firm date has been set for the game's re-launch. But Seedphrase says development is already in progress, and more updates will follow in the coming weeks.
Looking Ahead
Wolf Game is now on a new path. With the exit of Pixel Vault and the entrance of Seedphrase, the game is heading into a new phase, one that combines its early spirit with fresh systems, new risks, and a renewed focus on player experience.
Whether it can recapture its former hype is still unknown. But for now, one of web3's earliest and most talked-about games is being given a second chance, this time with its most devoted fan at the wheel.
