Web3 game developer Obitus Games has announced the Crystal Fragments Season, a P2A event starting in early September in OverKnights.

What Is OverKnights?

OverKnights is a free to play card battler in which players create a humanoid robot out of various different parts while setting up a diverse deck of cards to use in dynamic turn-based PvP card battles inspired by action-packed fighting games. Deploy cards and watch your customizable OverKnight bring them to life in cinematic action as you strategically attempt to destroy the opponent’s mech while blocking their attacks and tactically securing your way to victory, earning new parts, cards, and more goodies to use in further creating a better fighting machine and a stronger deck.

Backed by Immutable and Sequence, OverKnights is available for download on Windows PCs as a free to play title in open alpha on the Epic Games Store. You can start playing without connecting a web3 wallet or interacting with any blockchain features, but those who would like to play to earn crypto rewards, such as USDC in OverForge 3.0 leaderboards, will want to connect their Immutable Passport to be eligible for rankings. Very soon, you should be able to play to airdrop the game’s upcoming token by participating in the Crystal Fragments Season.

What Is OverKnights’ Crystal Fragments Season?

The Crystal Fragments Season is a play to airdrop event focused on rewarding skill-based competitive gameplay in OverKnights with an airdrop allocation of the studio’s upcoming $OVC token, which is set to possibly launch in mid to late November this year.

“Pilots, the call has been made. OverKnights is entering a new era with Play-2-Airdrop (P2A) where your skill, consistency, and commitment fuel the rewards you’ll earn. This isn’t about passively grinding tokens; this is compete-to-earn, where every duel, every quest, and every strategy brings you closer to the big finale.”

The starting date for the Crystal Fragments Event is early September, with the season planned to end in mid-November, followed by the TGE for the game’s core token.

Though the event is referred to as a season as well, the official announcement does state the event will actually be split into multiple seasons, with “strategic breaks” planned between them to give a chance to reset and prepare for another period of competitive leaderboard climbing. This also means that players will have multiple opportunities to secure rewards instead of just fighting for the top spots of one big leaderboard for a month and a half. Dividing it up thus makes the event accessible to more gamers overall, as nobody will feel left behind if they miss out on the start of the period when it’s possible to just jump into a new leaderboard instead.

While leaderboards look set to be used to distribute $IMX tokens, players wanting airdrops won’t necessarily have to focus on topping the rankings.

How to Play to Airdrop in OverKnights Crystal Fragments Event

Once the Crystal Fragments event kicks off at some point in early September, OverKnights players will be able to start competing for rewards by collecting Fragments.

To collect Fragments, you will need to earn Quantum Caches, which will be given out as rewards for completing daily and weekly quests. Every daily quest gives out 1 Cache, while completing a weekly quest is rewarded with 3 Caches. Each Cache has a random number of Fragments inside, either Fragment Shards or Rare Fragment Crystals. Both are earnable NFTs that can be converted into Tickets that are redeemable post-TGE in exchange for a token airdrop at an unspecified ratio. If you don’t want to exchange them for tokens, then you can also just sell them as NFTs or trade them in for pre-sale items in the game’s cash shop. You can also get $IMX tokens for holding Shards at the end of the season.

The number of Fragments awaiting you in each Cache is determined by a loot table system, of which there are 2 types: the Free Player Loot Table, and the Pilot Badge Loot Table. Of course, those who buy the Pilot Badge will have access to the other exclusive loot table system, which comes with “more lucrative rewards.” Additionally, if you are a Genesis Pilot NFT holder, then you get multipliers on all rewards.

The Pilot Badge is the game’s VIP pass designed to help you get the most out of this event by providing you access to the premium loot table for more earnings. Each account can have only one Pilot Badge, and it will be a tradable asset that you can buy, sell, and gift as well. Sales of Pilot Badges will help fund a shared reward pool at the end of each season.

Overall, the more Quantum Caches you can collect by completing daily and weekly quests, the more Fragments you can earn, in turn leading to a higher number of Tickets that will determine your airdrop allocation of the $OVC token. As you attempt to secure as many Fragments as possible within the given timeframe, you can also try and climb your way up the ELO rankings and social leaderboards while inviting friends for referral bonuses, alongside possibly other opportunities that look set to be rewarded with $IMX tokens and perhaps USDC, according to a P2A roadmap preview that was revealed back in July.

While it’s not stated what kind of daily and weekly quests there will be to complete, you can likely expect a mix of social and gameplay-related tasks. If you’re looking for a web3 game in which you can compete to earn rewards for free, then you might want to start preparing to play to airdrop in the Crystal Fragments event already before it likely goes live in the coming days. Download OverKnights on the Epic Games Store and start honing your skills to be ready to properly compete for rewards in this tactical PvP title.
