The developers of Outlanders have updated their web2-friendly MMO to version 1.4.0, introducing new gameplay features that aim to deliver a more rewarding web3 gaming experience.

What Is Outlanders?

Outlanders is a blockchain MMORPG that blends classic open world fantasy mechanics with on-chain ownership and play to earn features. The game aims to lower the barrier for web2 players by allowing them to start playing right away and later connect wallets to claim asset ownership.

In Outlanders, players explore vast medieval landscapes, complete various quests, battle a range of different monsters, and acquire varied loot. Assets in the game, such as weapons, armor, and other equipment can become NFTs, tradeable on the in-game marketplace using the game’s native token $LAND. The game uses a dual token system, where Nakamoto Games’ $NAKA ecosystem token also plays a role in enabling special events and rewards, as this game is the first low-poly MMORPG in the Nakamoto Games ecosystem.

Outlanders is built using Unity and is playable on Android and iOS mobile devices by downloading through official app stores. There is no strict linear progression as players can tackle challenges in varying orders and seek territory or resource control through exploration and conquest.

Because the game is powered by the BNB Chain, players can choose to connect their wallets and list items or assets they obtain, trade them, or convert them to $LAND and participate in other ecosystem activities.

What’s New in Version 1.4.0?

The development team has just released version 1.4.0, bringing in fresh content, balance revamps, and new systems meant to deepen gameplay and strengthen the game economy of Outlanders. The update is already live and specifically introduces the following:

  • Dungeons & Dungeon Ticket System
  • Resource Rework
  • Anti-Fall System
  • Balance & Gameplay Updates (Potion System, Character Stats, Item Overhaul)

One of the biggest additions is the introduction of dungeons. Players can now venture into challenging new dungeon areas with Dungeon Tickets in order to potentially unlock rare drops and "massive" rewards, giving players more structured content and high-risk, high-reward gameplay to enjoy.

Resource gathering has been overhauled in such a way so that the locations of resource nodes and their respawn times are completely altered in order to create a more dynamic and balanced game world, thus likely reducing resource monopolies while at the same time encouraging more exploration.

To help with navigation and annoyances players have faced in falling off the map during their adventures, an anti-fall safeguard has been implemented. Players should now be able to explore without the fear of accidentally falling off edges or terrain, smoothing traversal in tricky zones.

Alongside these new additions, a number of balance and gameplay updates have also been made in regards to the potion system, character stats, items, and game economy. For the potion system, potion effects are said to have been fully rebalanced for more tactical combat. Character stats have too been given some adjustments. Specifically, the “Max Weight bonus” from the STR stat has been removed, so that players can get a more favorable change here where everyone can now get +10 Max Weight per character level instead, possibly improving balance across builds.

As for items, Gold Weapons have been removed and replaced with a new “Werewolf” item drop, while the Adventure / Traveler item sets have been removed from the Blacksmith’s catalog. There is now however a new Gold Equipment Set available for crafting and upgrading character builds. When it comes to in-game economy changes, Gold Ore and Wood have been removed from the shop in order to “improve game balance and resource value.”

Play to Earn in Outlanders

With version 1.4.0 live, players now have expanded options to play and earn in Outlanders.

As before, much of the earning comes from adventuring, meaning you’ll want to focus on the core MMORPG gameplay of defeating monsters, exploring regions, completing quests, and gathering loot and resources. As you do so, you’ll get stronger gear, rarer drops, and valuable crafting materials that all feed into your progression and earning potential. The new dungeon system perhaps amplifies this further, as rarer drops and higher rewards await those who push deeper into the new challenging gameplay content.

Once you connect your wallet, items you obtain can be minted as NFTs and listed on the in-game marketplace. Through sales or trades, you can then convert your loot into $LAND.

From time to time, the developers may also launch various special events or challenges to play and earn in, often tied to $NAKA or native reward pools. Participation in these events can unlock bonus gains, rare items, or additional revenue streams. At the time of writing, the team is celebrating the release of this new update with a $100 USDT giveaway shared among the top 3 players that manage to record and showcase the best gameplay in the replies of that official X post.

Owning $NAKA may also unlock additional earning mechanics or access to special reward pools or events. For example, holding $NAKA might let you join exclusive conquests or claim extra rewards on top of your base gains.

Meanwhile, $LAND is your primary in-game currency, used for purchasing items, trading, crafting, and extracting value from the marketplace. Your ability to accumulate valuable NFTs and convert them into $LAND is central to your play and earn experience in this web3 title.

You can try out the latest version of Outlanders for free by downloading it on Android or iOS through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store respectively.

Earlier this year, Nakamoto Games secured $10m in funding for play to earn expansion, while also teaming up with Creo Engine to bring web3 gaming to millions of gamers.
