Nvidia launched new, upgraded tools to help build a more realistic metaverse
At the world's largest computer graphics event SIGGRAPH last week, Nvidia announced a slew of new tools for creators and developers to build lifelike metaverse environments and virtual avatars.
First on the list is Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) - a new toolkit launched by Nvidia last week. According to the GPU maker, the kit contains cloud-based AI models and services, allowing developers to build, customize, and deploy interactive avatars easily. With that, it is possible to create smart virtual assistants or avatars not just for gaming, but also for other sectors such as entertainment, banking, transportation, and hospitality.
Besides that, there are new features in Nvidia's Omniverse Kit, Nucleus, PhysX, and apps like Audio2Face and Machinima. Notably, these updates will help users "build physically accurate digital twins and realistic avatars". How so?
Take Audio2Face, for instance, the app uses an AI model to create facial expressions solely based on voices. With the latest upgrades, users can direct avatars' emotions over time. Thus, allowing creators to easily mix emotions such as joy, excitement, anger, and sadness when required. Here's how it works:
Needless to say, there are tons of updates to various Nvidia toolkits and applications. But one upgraded SDK that stands out is NVIDIA PhysX, an advanced engine that simulates real-world physics in the metaverse.
In order to create the next Ready Player One, or better, creators must ensure their 3D virtual worlds, at their very best, obey the law of physics. And PhysX is turning that into a reality. Given that, the latest features in this Nvidia SDK include scalable signed-distance-field (SDF) simulation, soft-body simulation, particle-cloth simulation for cloth manipulation, and soft-contact models.
With more users demanding high-quality, immersive experiences in the virtual world, top-notch developer tools such as those offered by Nvidia play a vital role. After all, megacorps, nations, educational institutions, and household brands worldwide are starting to pay more attention to the metaverse.
