The team behind card strategy racing game, MixMob: Racer 1, has announced its first IP license: Star Wars: A New Hope Stormtrooper, who will be their first licensed NFT to be part of their current and future Web3 titles.

Licensing Details

With this license, the studio now has licensing rights to create NFTs out of the Original Stormtrooper, allowing them to bring the iconic character not only to their existing free-to-play title but also to other games they make in the future. The deal was struck with Shepperton Design Studios and Andrew Ainsworth, the designer of the famous original helmet. As such, no Star Wars branding is allowed as Disney and Lucasfilm are not associated with this licensing agreement.

According to the official post, adding the Original Stormtrooper is more than just adding a simple character, “it’s about innovation,” as players will get to enjoy true digital ownership thanks to it being an NFT, enabling “authenticity and uniqueness.” While some digital assets may merely act as collectibles, these Stormtrooper NFTs will not, but instead are said to “represent a new hope in gaming where players have real stakes, gameplay and ownership.”

The CEO of MixMob, Simon Vieira, said the following in the announcement:

“Integrating the Original Stormtrooper into MixMob fulfills a dream shared by game developers worldwide. We want to see players form teams and factions that rally under the Stormtrooper banner and face-off against each other in our Turbo Arenas.”

Launch & Future Plans

While there aren’t currently many specific details on the sale itself, what is known is that the playable NFTs are going to launch together with the mobile version of Racer 1 in Q2 2024. It is also said that “priority access” will be given to holders of Gen0 Masks, Gen0 MixBots and MXM.

The studio will look to engage the community behind “A New Hope” by hosting special events and forming various collaborations, with exclusive rewards also set to be up for grabs for owners of these upcoming licensed NFTs.

This first IP license marks the start of the company’s official licensing strategy, who plan to acquire 3 more licenses throughout this year. Before founding MixMob, co-founders Simon Vieira and Pavel Bains have previously managed to secure licenses for DreamWorks, Warner Bros Kids, Peanuts, and more, and it’s that experience that was said to be “beneficial here and it solidifies our position for future collaborations and advancements.”
