MapleStory Universe, an upcoming blockchain gaming ecosystem based on the well-known MapleStory IP, has officially received a stunning $100 million investment, according to the their recent post on Twitter/X.
Investment Details
While their tweet announcing this funding doesn’t explicitly mention the source of this new investment, given that they are a subsidiary of Nexon, a Japanese video game publishing giant valued at $27 billion, it is very likely the parent company decided to provide financial support in order to help accelerate the development of their Web3-focused branch. In fact, that seems to certainly be the case, as the official X account did respond with a wink to a reply linking to an article on Naver that announces Nexon Universe raising 125 billion KRW in operating funds, equivalent to almost $100 million USD, with the funding made by Nexon Korea through a paid-in capital increase. The announcement was made last month and is written in Korean, with no official translation seemingly available.
The post also teases the community to look forward to next year, and so does the previously-mentioned article, where it is stated that a Nexon representative said that they plan to publish a roadmap in the first half of 2024 regarding token issuance and service launch.
About MapleStory Universe
MapleStory Universe is an upcoming ecosystem set to bring the famous IP to Web3 in the form of 4 blockchain projects: MapleStory N, MapleStory N Worlds, MapleStory N SDK, and MapleStory N Mobile.
MapleStory N is a PC MMORPG that will utilize blockchain technology without featuring any cash shops, making it so that tokens and items can only be earned through gameplay while giving players the option to turn the items into tradable NFTs. MapleStory N Mobile is the mobile version of the ecosystem’s core MMO, while MapleStory N Worlds is set to be a crypto-based UGC game platform where players will be able to make their own games using NFTs acquired from the ecosystem. Developers looking to create apps with MapleStory Universe NFTs outside of the ecosystem will get to use the SDK.
