Nexon, the developers of, MapleStory Universe, an upcoming NFT-based gaming ecosystem based on the popular free-to-play 2D MMO MapleStory, has recently posted a lengthy Twitter thread through the game’s official Twitter profile, providing us with a summary of highlights from their GDC session held this year. At their recent GDC session, the developers focused on the core of MMORPGs, which they defined as "RX" or the Reward Experience.
The developers plan to combine RX with blockchain technology to create RX 2.0 in MapleStory Universe, providing further utility of in-game items beyond the game and increasing the rarity of items in the process.
MapleStory Universe is an NFT-based ecosystem that allows players to earn tradable NFTs by playing the game. By releasing the non-fungible tokens in limited quantities, the developers believe that this will allow for better inflation management compared to the unlimited issuance system.
Furthermore, these MapleStory NFTs can be used outside of the game, which will allow various creators besides Nexon to activate the ecosystem. This will include MapleStory N Mobile, MapleStory N World, and MapleStory N SDK, which will allow for endless scalability.
To ensure that the ecosystem remains sustainable, the developers plan to reward creators and developers by measuring their contributions on the same line. They are preparing a blockchain-based token for this, which they will reveal more information about in the future.
The developers of MapleStory Universe have expressed their gratitude for their fans' continued interest and have promised to release more detailed information on their GDC session soon. In the meantime, you can check out their Twitter thread down below.
MapleStory Universe will run on the Polygon network, as recently revealed. Specifically, it will have its own Supernet, their own dedicated blockchain utilizing the security of the Layer 2 Ethereum-based network.
