In partnership with Tezos, English football club Manchester United has opened an NFT exhibit at its museum that is now free for the public to visit.

During last month, the club hosted an exhibit at its own museum where the focus was on educating the community about the power of NFTs and blockchain technology, while recently releasing a new video showing how five long-time United fans from around the whole world were given the opportunity to be flown to Manchester together with their friends and family in order to enjoy a VIP weekend, all thanks to ownership of certain official digital collectibles from the prestigious club.

Fans who held Ultra Rare Keys, the rarest collectibles in the NFT collection called The Keys were given the chance to not only enjoy a VIP weekend at the club’s stadium, Old Trafford, but also the honor of engraving their names into United history at the club’s museum.

The Keys represents the club’s very first NFT collection launched together with their official blockchain partner, Tezos. It was claimed over 880k times across the globe and, according to Senior Marketing & Community Manager of Manchester United, Keir Mackay, this is “one of the biggest ever drops in sports history.” Five Lucky fans who were randomly assigned Ultra Rare Keys were given this special VIP opportunity that included a weekend during which they watched the club’s final Premier League match of the season as well as spend time at the museum where they saw their names permanently placed as part of the club’s history. You can see a glimpse of this experience in the embedded short video in the Twitter thread down below, but a longer video of the exhibit can be found over on a related article at the club’s official website.

Both in the video on the website and in the above Twitter thread, NFTs are described as official and unique pieces of Club memorabilia that fans can own and store in digital wallets, unlocking access to varying sets of rewards that can include signed shirts, exclusive interviews, and more. Club historian Jason Leach wraps up the footage with the following: “Collecting football memorabilia has been very important to United fans for years. Whether it be programs, scarf collections or pin badges, but digital collectibles are the future.”
