LimeWire, a relic from the past previously known as a client for downloading files such as music in the early 2000s, is now back, under new ownership, at the forefront of innovation, utilizing blockchain technology to not only make a music-focused NFT platform, but also to create a browser-based Web3 game that features a prize pool of 150k LMWR that players can compete for until May 15th.
Simply called the LimeWire Game, this blockchain title warps you back in time in the days of Windows XP, putting you not only in front of the famous wallpaper, but more importantly, in front of the historical file sharing client. The objective is to download as many music and movie files as you can without catching a virus. If you download something infected with a virus, its game over. Aside from having to avoid getting a virus, you’re also limited by a 1-minute timer, requiring you to be both careful and quick in your quest to attain the highest score out of any player, increasing the timer as you download virus-free files. Sharing your score at the end on Twitter awards you with 100 bonus points for all future games.
By getting among the top 6 players with the highest score, you’ll be eligible for a 150k $LMWR prize pool, with the winner netting the majority of it, that is, 100k tokens that are worth $30k USD according to the prize details in the game. Those ranked from 2nd to 6th get 10k $LMWR each, equivalent to $3k USD, while the top 1000 players will get a LimeWire Merch Package.
You don’t need to connect your wallet to play this game. All you have to do is input your email address and you’re good to go. The link to the game can be found in the tweet down below.
As for the $LMWR token itself, it’s been revealed that, after undergoing a private sale and community sale, a public sale of 97.5 million tokens is set to take place in Q2 this year, or more specifically, next month on May 2nd. The total supply is 1 billion, out of which 200 million were sold in the private sale, raising a total of $10.4 million USD, while the community sale featured 2.5 million tokens. More details on the token are available here.
