Paris Saint-Germain FC’s football star Kylian Mbappé has formed an exclusive, long-term partnership with Sorare, an NFT-based fantasy football game on the Ethereum network.
The French football player is not only an investor into the crypto project and a “Social Impact partner”, but he is now also their very first player ambassador. This also marks Mbappé’s first foray into the world of crypto and NFTs , following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the latter recently making a multi-year partnership with one of the biggest crypto exchanges around: Binance.
Co-founder and CEO of Sorare, Nicolas Julia said the following in one of his tweets regarding the huge announcement:
“Kylian is becoming our exclusive, long term Ambassador as well as a major Investor. Together, we'll bring Sorare to millions of fans. Kylian will accelerate our mission to unite sports fans across the globe around a player-owned gaming experience”
The CEO also stated that, together with their new signing, they will work to support various underprivileged groups launch their own businesses while educating them about Web3, offering conferences, training and even “a special diploma for IBKM.” The acronym stands for “Inspired By Kylian Mbappe”, which is the player’s very own charity that aims to financially aid 98 Parisian children aged 9-16, with the number of children symbolically referring to his birth year.
As a result of the new partnership, Sorare gave out three Mbappé Limited cards to three lucky Twitter users, giving them a valuable NFT they can either sell or use as part of their lineup for their fantasy team.
Next to Mbappé, two more footballers are also supporting the NFT title: Antoine Griezmann is an investor, while Gerard Pique is a strategic advisor.
The first mobile version of Sorare has officially launched onto the Apple App Store in May this year, allowing iOS users to collect football player NFTs and form the best squad while competing for weekly prizes. It’s also available on web browsers, while an Android version is currently in the works. In that same month the MLB teamed up with Sorare to create an official fantasy baseball game that is set for release this summer.
