Gunzilla Games, an AAA gaming studio working on the development of cyberpunk battle royale Off The Grid, have, together with their new partner Avalanche, officially announced the launch of GUNZ, a blockchain gaming platform running on a Subnet of the Layer 1 chain.

Described as “the first ever triple-A blockchain platform that puts players first,” this new Subnet is designed to allow players of the blockchain title Off The Grid the ability to mint in-game items into NFTs that, according to the platform’s official website, can be traded “inside the game’s marketplace or elsewhere.”

It’s also explained on the website that players will be able to find a loot box called ‘HEX’ during a match, which can be extracted by heading to an extraction location and surviving the attacks of other players. If you manage to make it out alive with the HEX in your hands, you’ll be able to turn it into an NFT, giving you the ability to trade it using the official in-game currency of the GUNZ platform: GUN. This Subnet’s official token is used for purchasing and trading items on the marketplace, but also for paying gas fees. It can be earned by completing a variety of in-game challenges. These challenges may include doing things like getting a certain amount of kills with a specific weapon in one match, successfully extracting a HEX loot box and more.

Gunzilla Games managed to raise $46 million for this new platform in August last year, with the investment round including Animoca Brands, Griffin Gaming Partners, The Spartan Group and more investors. Their battle royale, Off The Grid, is set to launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at some point this year.
