The Guild of Guardians team has recently published a GOG Economy Showcase, in which we get to learn about the latest development progress while providing us with details on the fundamentals of the game’s economy.
In this roguelite squad RPG, players will create squads of Guardians in order to go into dangerous Dungeons in an effort to gain various rewards. This is considered the primary game loop, the core gameplay experience. The secondary loop involves the game’s merging and crafting systems, in which you’re deciding what equipment to craft and which materials and blueprints to collect when raiding Dungeons.
The developers have stated that throughout the past year, they’ve learned that “economic sustainability and broad market appeal” are intertwined, and have as a result made some adjustments to the economy’s design in an effort to bring millions of gamers into Web3 and provide an accessible experience. This means Web3 won’t be mandatory for player progression, but will instead serve as the “optimal path for advancement.” By making this change, Web2 players won’t need to acquire tokens and NFTs in order to enjoy all the content on offer, although the team does state that playing this way is considered as an “inefficient play style.” In order to keep the economy sustainable, the team has placed “careful guardrails” in the economy’s design in order to prevent value-extraction.
It’s been teased that shortly after the game’s release, various end-game systems will go live, including PvE Raids, Guild Crafting, and Guild vs. Guild battles. For the initial release, the goal is to deliver an engaging core gameplay loop with solo PvE progression being the focus of the first version of the game’s economy.
