In collaboration with the developers of Guild of Guardians, free-to-play blockchain TCG Gods Unchained is getting a new expansion on April 22nd: Dread Awakening.

Expansion Details

Launching on April 22nd at 6 PM PST, Dread Awakening is a cosmic horror-themed major expansion pack that brings with it 132 cards and new mechanics while expanding the game’s world of Eucos by crossing over into the lore of Guild of Guardians, making this the first-ever IP crossover between the two Web3 titles.

The executive producer of Gods Unchained, Daniel Paez, said the following in a press release:

“This was a really fun expansion for us to work on because we've been able to lean into the creativity and lore of Guild of Guardians, while working really closely and collaboratively with a team that is quite literally, sitting right next to me. We've been dropping hints about the Dread and a possible IP crossover, but today, I'm excited that we are finally able to confirm that our vision is finally here.”

New Cards

According to the latest announcement on the game’s official blog, a set of 132 new cards are being introduced to “redefine strategies and gameplay.” Players will be able to acquire them through reward and premium packs; the former earned through Weekend Ranked and the Sealed mode, while the latter are available for purchase through game’s own store. Among the new cards are 13 Legendary cards which you can check out on the official expansion page. Extremely rare and unique Mythic art variants of 7 Legendary cards can be found in premium packs, and once they all get pulled, promo cards will start to appear in premium packs.

Some cards are exclusively attainable only through crafting. These include 6 Rare cards, 6 Epic cards and 6 Legendary cards, one for every domain.

New Mechanics

When it comes to new gameplay mechanics, a “Shine-down” mechanic has been introduced to Legendary crafting, making it so that getting a Crafted Legendary card also results in receiving a Meteorite version of the used Epic cards. Through this new mechanic, the team hopes players are more encouraged to dabble in Legendary crafting “without having to worry about depriving their deck of playable cards.”

Next to this, there are also 2 more new mechanics on the way: “Dreadtouched” and “Elderytch Mysteries.” Dreadtouched is said to be focused on “sacrifice and transformation,” while Elderytch Mysteries will allow players to unlock various abilities “by embracing the enigmatic forces of the cosmos.”
