The public beta of free to play move to earn title Genopets has been updated to version 1.1, introducing a variety of new features, including the long-awaited Energy 2.0 system.
What’s New in v1.1?
To complement the adjustments to the Energy system, this latest version introduces Challenges and Streaks.
Challenges are designed to give players a variety of activities to do across various parts of the Solana-based app to earn rewards that may include food, toys, and Augments to customize your pet with. You can find this new feature on the left side of the game’s homepage so you can see daily, weekly, and special challenges as well as the rewards for completing them. These tasks range from petting your Genopet and banking a certain number of times to playing Arcade Mode 10 times and adding any Augment from a specific family.
Streaks are meant to encourage players to successively bank their steps daily to create streaks that award bonus Energy, so the longer your streak is, the more extra Energy you get. The icon for this new feature is also on the left side of the homepage, and opening it will show you your current streak as well as your progress in completing various Milestone Badges that reward you with Energy.

So what’s actually changed with Energy? Well, the goal of the 2.0 revamp was to lower token inflation and reward committed and invested players more. As a result, Step Efficiency Ratings have been lowered for most Genopet levels, decreasing the amount of Energy gained from passive step banking to reward more consistent players instead. Hence why Challenges and Streaks have been added – instead of accumulating a huge amount of steps in a day than is considered regular, the game now is geared more towards rewarding active and consistent players who bank daily with streaks. By adding new ways to earn, this actually now means that by completing Challenges, banking daily, and creating long Streaks, you will supposedly be able to earn more Energy than you were able to with the previous system.
Various improvements have also been made to make the game run smoother, while issues that have been making the app crash have been specifically addressed.
The update is live for download for free on the App Store, and you can probably expect to see it appear on the Play Store soon as well. In the meantime, there’s still time to win some Olympic-themed prizes by competing in step battles. You have until August 11th to do so, and you can check out what the rewards look like in this tweet.

Last month, the team revealed their plans for the Habitat/Harvesting rework which adjusts how $KI Harvesting and Habitat Levelling works. This was expected to go live together with this update, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, so it remains unclear as to when the overhaul will actually go live. It’s not the only thing the studio has in the works either. Genopets is presenting at The Open Summit in Taipei during the ABS2024 Asia Blockchain Summit from August 6th to 8th, where they’re planning a big reveal of their new Telegram Mini app: Genopets: Pixelton Arena. This Telegram app will allow players to engage in PvP battles on TON, and you might be able to get early access to it by heading to their Telegram announcements channel linked in this tweet.
About Genopets
Genopets is a free to play move to earn game that runs on Solana and rewards players for banking their steps every day. Further incentivizing users is the focus on owning a pet, which everyone gets for free and has to take care of by petting, feeding, and playing with the pet using various toys to ensure it’s happy and well-fed. Level up your pet by converting earned Energy into XP to have it evolve to the next stage, making it grow and change appearance.
