The Genopets team has introduced their plans to release a Habitat/Harvesting rework which, together with the upcoming Energy 2.0 update, should help in simplifying and improving the overall player experience of the free to play, move to earn title.

What Does the Rework Bring?

This 2.0 overhaul is designed to simplify the harvesting system while limiting $KI token and Habitats inflation. The revamp should also help align incentives from the system directly with actions that add value to the Web3 title’s world, so holding $GENE is one example of a value-generating action. This update should also encourage players to focus on long-term engagement and investment, as the changes will lead to rewarding players based on their stake in the network. With all that said, let’s now dive into the specifics and see what changes await us in the near future.

Harvesting Changes

Harvesting will no longer depend on a per-Habitat basis, so the claimable $KI won’t be produced by the existing rules. Instead, the update notes state that the Total Harvestable $KI will be “the sum of all active Habitats' levels.”

Basically, there will be a fixed pool of $KI, from which each active Habitat will be able to claim a share of depending on their Habitat Weight, which is calculated by multiplying the Habitat Multiplier with GENE Weight. To get the Habitat Multiplier, you divide the Habitat Level by 9. As for the GENE Weight, well, that’s a bit more complicated as you can see below, but essentially seems to depend on the number of GENE you have stored. Overall, the higher the Habitat Weight you got, the more $KI you can get from this new pool.

How Habitat Leveling Works

Every Habitat will now start at Level 1, with Level 10 being the max possible level you can upgrade to. You will need a certain amount of XP to level up (1200 XP x the current level). To gain XP, you can convert KI to XP at a 1:1 ratio, but you can also Merge another Habitat with the one you want to level up. This will burn the Habitat being Merged in order to transfer its XP to the one you want to upgrade.

When you do have enough XP to level up, you will then also need to meet some more requirements to commence the Upgrade process: a certain amount of GENE tokens (10 GENE x the next level) and a specific number of crystals matching the current level while having the same elemental type as the Habitat.

More Habitat Changes: Merge, Terraformation & Removal of Sub-Habitats

The Terraformation feature will only be available to Level 10 Habitats and allow players to split the maxed out Habitat into 2 new Level 1 Habitats, so if you want to create new Habitats, this will be the only way to do so once the changes are implemented. Terraform Seeds won’t be needed for Terraformation, but will instead be used as an important quest item and crafting ingredient for the Web3 title’s upcoming Season 2.

All current active Habitats will undergo a Merge process in order to successfully convert them to be in line with the new previously mentioned mechanics for Levels and Harvesting. This won’t be an automatic process though, but will instead require each owner to give their verified signature. Those who don’t will have their connected Habitats set to an inactive state until they make a decision. If you choose to Merge, the Habitat will be converted to the new system using the formula above, but if you don’t Merge, then any connected Habitats will be disconnected and transferred to the player’s wallet.

Sub-Habitats will be a feature of the past once this new update goes live, so it won’t be possible to connect Habitats to one another anymore. This should make things simpler, as users won’t have to worry about figuring out which Habitat is Primary and which one is a Sub-Habitat. Anyone using connected Habitat setups will have the option to convert to the new system. By giving this option to the community, players can choose whether they want to keep their NFTs or burn them. Should they switch to the new system, the Sub-Habitats will be burned and the Primary Habitat will receive a new level using a formula for new Habitat XP:

New Habitat XP = old Habitat level XP + restore ‘true’ bonus + dormancy fraction * (0.5*(old Habitat KI cap * remaining lifespan) + 0.5*((old Habitat KI cap – 10) * remaining durability)))

Full details explaining this formula can be found in the official patch notes.
