The team behind Gala Music is introducing a community-requested feature that adds in third-party streaming data into the BEAMS distribution algorithm: boosted streams.
This means that if you own a track that is popular on other music platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, you’ll be able to earn more.
In order to test out how well this idea works, the team has introduced the new system to “New Color,” a track from Gala Music favorite artist, PLS&TY. Since May 25th, third-party streaming data has been taken into account for this particular track, and according to the announcement, PLS&TY’s new track, “Yours,” will be getting the same treatment soon.
By taking into account how well tracks on the NFT music platform are doing elsewhere, Gala aims to “recognize the success of artists outside our walls” while rewarding fans who have shown their support by owning their tracks as NFTs.
The official post reveals that in the future, the goal is to further extend this new feature to all Silver Tier tracks, as well as those of a higher tier. While the success of these tracks on the Gala Music platform will be prioritized in the BEAMS distribution algorithm over other data, third-party streams will still be a “significant factor in total rewards generated.”
