Following the incidents that delayed the UEFA Champions League Final match in Paris between Liverpool and Real Madrid back in May, the French Government’s Olympics envoy Michel Cadot sent in a 30-page report to the Prime Minister’s office earlier this month containing various recommendations for improving security for future events.

Among the listed suggestions include the introduction of a blockchain, NFT ticketing system for all important sporting events. This system is planned to be used for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as the Rugby World Cup next year, according to Michel Cadot, as quoted by the Ticketing Business News:

“These provisions are already planned for the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the Olympics and Paralympics 2024 and practiced by major events such as the French International Tennis.”

By switching to NFT tickets, physical ones would no longer be needed, as they could now be digitally sent via SMS and QR codes a few days before the start of the event and activated at a certain safe zone, decreasing or perhaps completely eliminating ticket fraud.  

“This coordination, applied to other Major International Sporting Events of major importance upstream of the cut of the Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, would make it possible to prefigure the planned systems and to break in the working methods, as well as the reflexes of multi-actor management to face difficulties.”
