CCP Games, the developer of renowned space MMO EVE Online, has announced a PHASE III closed playtest and hackathon for their upcoming blockchain title, Project Awakening, while sharing new details on the project itself.
What Is Project Awakening?
According to the latest announcement, Project Awakening is described as being a persistent world, a “single-shard survival experience” set in the EVE universe. Players will be able to creatively build on top with the use of blockchain technology, with the Web3 title powered by their EVM-compatible Carbon Development Platform alongside MUD by Lattice - the former now being made open source.
In order to test these tools that allow for user-made content, the studio has decided to host a closed playtest on May 21st, labelled PHASE III.
Playtest & Hackathon
The playtest will allow participants to develop and enjoy utility made by the community, with an online hackathon set to take place during the playtest period to encourage and provide creatives “with an opportunity to unleash their creativity.” In the announcement, the team states that they will include guides and tools to help you create new features.
If you’re interested in applying, you can do so by heading to the playtest page, which is linked in the official announcement but can also be found on the home page of the official website. Both events are set to take place within Discord, with participants required to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) for a chance at gaining access.
Last year, the EVE Online creator secured $40 million for the development of this massive Web3 title, and it seems that a chosen few will be lucky to get an early glimpse of it this coming May.
