Experienced mobile game developer Plai Labs, previously known as Jam City, has announced that the upcoming pre-alpha playtests for Champions: Ascension will be free to play and walletless, meaning there won’t be any need to have a Web3 wallet in order to try out the play-to-earn metaverse.
The download link can be found in the tweet down below, the same tweet which also contains the schedule of the playtests, with the first one starting today, this Thursday at 9 AM PST and ending on 11 AM PST. On the same day there is another time to jump in from 3 PM PST to 5 PM PST, with more testing periods taking place on Friday / Saturday.
While no wallet is needed, the team has mentioned in the announcement post on the official Discord server that tickets “will still be collected using an email address to play” and that those who want to use the play-to-mint system for lootboxes will still have to make a digital wallet.
Previously, everyone who wanted to play had to use a wallet. Now with this requirement gone, returning players may find it easier to invite friends who aren’t crypto savvy to try out the game, potentially opening the doors to onboarding more gamers to blockchain gaming.
Champions: Ascension has been in pre-alpha since September last year, with third-person arena combat gameplay opening up in November 2022.
