Turn-based party-builder RPG Chain of Alliance has officially launched in beta, introducing revamped gameplay to enjoy for free on web browsers.

What’s New in Beta?

In January this year, a roadmap update was published for the first half of 2024, revealing that this release would make it in Q2 of this year and offer a “polished and balanced combat system.” The team has managed to launch the new version right on schedule, and the gameplay has indeed been improved with significant changes to the combat system that should help provide a better gaming experience. Changes have been made in line with tester feedback gathered during the Alpha phase.

Next to combat adjustments, the sound effects have also been updated while a new visual style has been introduced alongside new animations and an overhauled user interface for a more dynamic and user-friendly experience.

Combat Changes

The battle grid has been reduced in size to a 2x2 layout, making hero placement more intense and tactical than before. Action Points (AP) have been removed to provide uniform skill costs in order to increase “strategic flexibility and decision-making speed.” The Health points and damage stats you have at the beginning are now different than before, while skills have been reworked by dividing them into Weapon Skills and Class Skills.

Status effects are now simpler than before as they’ve been streamlined to Taunt, Mark, Block, and Bleed, while Magical damage has been removed from the game. This means that there’s now only Physical damage and Elemental damage types (Fire, Ice, Poison and Lightning).

Class designs have been overhauled to make each more distinct from the other, making the role of each class more clearer while encouraging teamwork and creation of better strategies.

Studio co-founders Simon Sorgenfrei & Dennis Kirsch said the following in the announcement:

“We’re very proud of what the team accomplished with the Beta release! Although we have so much more ambition, it all starts with making a good game first, that’s what we sought out, and feel we were able to create. We hope our fans will agree, and wish them a lot of fun in playing the Beta of Chain of Alliance!”
