The Cantina Royale team has made a feature highlights post last week for the characters that will be included in the free-to-play, top-down arena shooter.

In this feature highlight, the developers talk about character roles, character stats, ultimate abilities and character progression, giving us info on all the new unique playable characters they’ve revealed since announcing the upcoming major updates they have in store for this year.

Out of the 6 characters seen in the image above, there are 2 who have the Soldier role, 2 Assassins and 2 Tanks. While these roles mean that certain characters are more geared towards certain playstyles, with their stats reflecting that, this of course doesn’t mean you have to stick to the kind of suggested role, but can instead try out different playstyles as well.

When it comes to characters stats, there are 3 main stats to keep in mind when picking a character: Health, Shield and Mobility (movement speed). The team has stated in their Medium post that Victory, Defense and Agility stats will be removed, while NFT characters “will gain their respective Health and Shield values based on their existing levels.” Stamina will also be gone, meaning that Perks affected by this change will be adjusted as a result to match the new updates, with the developers stating that they will provide more info in a future feature highlight article for Perks and the talent system.

Each character comes with their own ultimate ability that is charged during a match over time, with kills lowering this charge time. The abilities will be upgradable up to a total of 10 times, for every 10th level up of your character, while stats will of course increase whenever you level up.

As for character progression, the studio has said that they will keep the level cap at 100 with all existing characters keeping the same level as they already have. Upgrading characters will require the use of character tokens, which are universal tokens “earned in various ways” while Species Token restrict you to using them for a certain character race.
